Role Purpose
Support the continued growth of WM Stone's inland transportation brokerage operations by overseeing the day-to-day coordination and execution of intermodal, oversized, and domestic trucking shipments. Working closely with the Manager of Inland Solutions, this role is responsible for building strong carrier relationships, ensuring seamless shipment execution, and delivering exceptional service throughout the transportation process. The Inland Logistics Specialist will play a key role in supporting both WM Stone's international forwarding and customs operations, as well as expanding our standalone domestic transportation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
| Area | Core Duties
| Transportation Operations |  Manage the end-to-end execution of intermodal, drayage, oversized, and domestic truckload shipments from booking through final delivery. Monitor shipment milestones, proactively resolve service issues, and ensure timely pickups, deliveries, and customer communication.
| Carrier Management |  Source, qualify, onboard, and develop a reliable network of transportation providers. Negotiate competitive rates, maintain strong carrier relationships, and ensure compliance with company standards, insurance requirements, and service expectations.
| Intermodal & Drayage Operations |  Coordinate port, rail, and inland container movements, including terminal pickups, delivery appointments, empty returns, chassis management, and accessorial services. Work closely with carriers, terminals, and customers to ensure efficient execution.
|  Project Cargo & Specialized Transportation |  Coordinate oversized, overweight, flat rack, and specialized freight movements by arranging appropriate equipment, permits, routing, escorts, cranes, transload services, and other project logistics requirements.
|  Transportation Systems & Data Management |  Maintain accurate shipment records within PortPro, including milestones, carrier information, rates, documentation, and operational notes. Ensure data integrity to support reporting, visibility, and operational efficiency.
| Customer & Internal Collaboration |  Serve as the primary operational liaison between carriers, customers, warehouses, terminals, vendors, and WM Stone's forwarding, customs, and compliance teams. Provide proactive shipment updates and resolve operational exceptions with urgency and professionalism.
| Process Improvement & Department Growth | Support the continued development of WM Stone's transportation brokerage division by assisting with standard operating procedures (SOPs), carrier onboarding processes, pricing strategies, and operational workflows. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and service quality as the department grows.
 
Qualifications
·  Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation brokerage, carrier operations, dispatch, intermodal transportation, or a related logistics     environment.
·  Strong knowledge of domestic trucking operations, carrier procurement, rate negotiation, shipment execution, and transportation best       
   practices.
·  Experience coordinating intermodal, drayage, port, rail, and containerized freight movements strongly preferred.
·  Experience managing oversized, overweight, flat rack, project cargo, or other specialized transportation moves preferred.
·  Hands-on experience with PortPro TMS or a comparable transportation management system preferred.
·  Working knowledge of truckload (FTL), less-than-truckload (LTL), flatbed, step deck, RGN, and other specialized transportation services.
·  Proven ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously while balancing competing priorities, deadlines, and customer expectations in     a fast-paced environment.
·  Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with carriers, customers, and         internal teams.
·  Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to maintaining accurate shipment records and operational    
   data.
·  Ability to work collaboratively with customs brokerage, international forwarding, compliance, and operations teams to deliver seamless    
   transportation solutions.
·  Comfortable working in a growing department and contributing to the development of scalable processes, operational standards, and best     practices.
·  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions and effectively manage shipment exceptions under     
   pressure.
·  A customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering responsive, high-quality service and building long-term client and carrier     
   relationships.
