Job description

Job Description:

B2B Communications Director, Dow Jones Energy

Location: New York, NY (hybrid)

About the Role:

We are seeking a strategic, dynamic leader for the newly created role of Director of Communications, Dow Jones Energy. This is a pivotal position during a period of significant growth and investment for our Energy business.

Dow Jones Energy is undergoing a multi-year transformation to grow market share across price reporting, news, research and events in the energy and environmental commodities space. As a key member of the global communications team, you will be responsible for building the communications infrastructure, strategy and narrative for this critical part of the Dow Jones portfolio from the ground up.

As Director, you will serve as the dedicated communications partner for Energy leadership and subject matter experts, while working closely with our London-based B2B Communications Director.

While this is an individual contributor role, you will act as a "player-coach," orchestrating resources from across our global communications team to execute high-impact campaigns. Your first year will focus on establishing the operational playbook, supporting the transformation of the business which will become a leader in the energy conversation globally.

You bring strong B2B experience, excellent news judgment and the ability to translate complex topics and datasets into clear, compelling narratives for external and internal audiences.

You will work in our Midtown Manhattan office 3 days each week.

You Will:

  • Architect and launch a comprehensive global communications strategy for Dow Jones Energy, aligning messaging across diverse sectors including oil, chemicals, sustainability, renewables and electric vehicles (EVs).

  • Identify, train and position key subject matter experts and business leaders as industry-leading voices for market-moving insights. Manage their profiles at major industry events and across digital platforms.

  • Partner with product, sales and editorial teams-as well as other parts of Dow Jones-to translate complex data sets and benchmarks into compelling stories that resonate with trade, business, financial and broadcast media.

  • Act as the primary bridge between the Energy business unit and the broader Dow Jones global communications team, leveraging shared resources to ensure consistent execution of the Energy roadmap.

  • Build and maintain high-level relationships with key energy and commodities journalists and broadcast producers to secure consistent, high-quality coverage of our data and experts.

  • Support high-profile social media campaigns, advising on positioning and posting as needed.

  • Establish internal communication channels to ensure the Energy team's successes and strategic priorities are well-understood by the global team, as well as the wider Dow Jones organization.

  • Support a regular cadence of internal communications and engagement activities that will drive a culture of collaboration, learning and growth.

You Have:

  • 12+ years of professional B2B experience in corporate communications and public relations (Direct experience in the energy space including oil, chemicals, commodities, renewables, or other adjacent industries is preferred)

  • Demonstrated experience leading a communications portfolio encompassing media relations, executive profiling, thought leadership, social media, and internal communications to drive business goals

  • Proven ability to thrive in a "blank canvas" environment-you are comfortable moving quickly, building processes where none exist and driving projects from concept to completion

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a track record of leading by influence, managing stakeholders in a matrixed environment and mobilizing team resources you do not directly manage

  • Masterful writing and editing skills with the ability to turn technical market analysis into clear, impactful prose for a global audience

  • Experience working across multiple time zones and cultures; ability to travel as needed to support global events and leadership

  • Ability to work in our Midtown Manhattan office at least 3 days each week

  • A strong desire to be a key driver of an exciting transformation and growth story for Dow Jones Energy
