Douglas ESD is accepting applications for the position of Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive health services to the students and communities served by the Douglas Education Service District. This school-based position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on students' lives without nights, weekends, overtime, or hospital burnout!
SCHEDULE/WORK YEAR: 190 days per year (following school calendar), 8 hours per day Monday - Friday, plus additional part-time hours Monday - Thursday in the month of July while summer programs are in session. (Exact hours to be determined once summer program schedules are released.)

SALARY: This is an annual salary position based on a 190-day contract; however, compensation is equivalent to an hourly rate of $41.66 - $58.17 depending on relevant verifiable experience and degree.

DUTIES: This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job. Full job description is attached in Applicant Tracking.
  • In accordance with the standards of school nursing practice and the Oregon nurse practice act, implement appropriate use of the nursing process to plan and provide individualized nursing care in the school community, including nursing delegation and training for anticipated emergency.
  • Collaborate with clients, family, school staff, school nurse colleagues and other pertinent professional and community persons in the delivery of school health services.
  • Evaluate nursing care needs and participate in eligibility meetings to establish educational disability.
  • Develop nursing treatment plans and health care IEP/IFSP goals.
  • Provide training and supervise medication administration and record keeping as prescribed by physician and program procedures. Evaluate and monitor medication administration procedures in each school.
  • Provide direct nursing treatment as specified on IEP/IFSP and train/supervise educational staff in delegated nursing tasks.
  • Provide staff development in-services regarding health care concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all services and submit accountability records in a timely manner.
  • Complete all Medicaid billing documentation, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submission.
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately and make independent decisions within established policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with teachers, assistants, partners, building staff and other providers.
  • Participate in professional growth activities.
  • Comply with local district and ESD rules and policies.
  • Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
  • Attends work regularly and as scheduled. Possess the ability to perform all functions of the job. Reasonable accommodation will be provided if needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to and from school locations in the Douglas ESD service area and may be required to travel on overnight assignments.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Valid Registered Nurse license issued by Oregon State Nursing Board.
  • BSN/BS in a health-related field required or equivalent years of experience.
  • Knowledge and experience managing individuals with type 1 diabetes, mentally and multiply disabled children, seizures, asthma, allergies, feeding tube care and management and applicable health care treatment procedures is preferred.
  • Knowledge of health care treatment procedures is helpful.
