Job description

Job Title: Occupational Therapist (OT)
Reports To: Director of Special Education / Rehabilitation Manager / Clinical Supervisor
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:
The Occupational Therapist (OT) evaluates, plans, and implements therapy services to help individuals develop, improve, or regain the skills necessary for daily living, learning, and working. The OT collaborates with families, educators, and other professionals to provide interventions that address fine motor, sensory processing, self-care, and functional life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual-motor integration, and self-care abilities.
  • Develop and implement individualized therapy plans based on assessment findings.
  • Provide direct intervention to support participation in academic, daily living, and social activities.
  • Recommend and train in the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to integrate therapy goals into natural routines.
  • Document evaluations, progress notes, and reports in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Participate in IEP or treatment plan meetings to share progress and recommendations.
  • Educate and support families on strategies to carry over therapy goals at home.
  • Maintain licensure and stay current with best practices and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or higher) in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • State licensure or eligibility for licensure as an OT in Illinois (or applicable state).
  • Strong knowledge of pediatric development, sensory integration, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in school-based or pediatric settings.
  • Training in sensory integration and/or neurodevelopmental treatment.
  • Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and assistive devices.

Working Conditions
