The primary function of this position is to operate heavy equipment for the purposes of road maintenance and construction. This position is located in District 62, Unit 776 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 2. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Operate heavy and specialized equipment used in road and bridge maintenance
  • Assist with construction, repair, and upkeep of highways and bridges
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
  • Support traffic control, cleanup, and emergency response activities
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, loading materials, and using hand and power tools
  • This role requires reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.

Position-Specific Details:
MEO-1 $16.06 /hourly- receives Premium Pay of $1.00/hour for all hours worked.
Additionally, a 10% base pay increase granted upon attainment of permanent status. Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
Career Progression: This position will be filled as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1 only.
Licensing Requirements: Valid Louisiana Class "D" Chauffeur's License or CDL prior to permanent appointment or start date.
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
