Gas Distribution Laborer

Job Description/Position Summary

C.J. Hughes Construction is seeking a dedicated Gas Distribution Laborer to join our natural gas installation crew. This position involves assisting with daily field operations and performing physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions while maintaining a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and productivity. While flagging may be required on occasion, this role primarily involves hands-on labor to help ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

· Perform physical labor including digging, lifting, carrying, and handling materials, tools, and equipment

· Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground natural gas pipelines

· Assist with trenching, backfilling, grading, and general site preparation

· Support pipe handling, alignment, and installation activities

· Follow directions from supervisors and crew leaders and communicate effectively with team members

· Maintain strong awareness of safety procedures, especially when working within the red zone of heavy equipment operations

· Use hand tools and construction equipment safely and effectively

· Assist with job site setup and cleanup, including staging materials and equipment

· Adapt to different job sites, schedules, overtime, and overnight travel as needed

· Set up and remove barricades, traffic cones, and warning signs when traffic control or flagging duties are required

· Work safely in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions

· Maintain productivity while meeting safety and quality expectations

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred

· At least 1 year of construction labor experience preferred

· Plastic fusion experience preferred but not required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Strong communication and listening skills

· Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a crew

· Strong awareness of job site safety and surroundings

· Ability to perform physical labor in a fast-paced environment

· Reliable, dependable, and strong work ethic

Employment Requirements:

- Valid Drivers License and Reliable Transportation

- Must provide documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility in accordance with federal I-9 requirements

- Ability to pass drug test and background check

- Willingness to travel and work in different areas as needed

- Commitment to following all Safety Policies and Procedures

- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor

- Ability to work overtime and extended hours based on workload

- Must be 18 years of age

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift up to at least 50 pounds

· Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting

· Ability to perform physically demanding labor for extended periods

· Capability to work in demanding outdoor construction environments

Work Environment:

· Outdoor construction job sites in varying weather conditions

· Exposure to heavy equipment, traffic, noise, and uneven terrain

· Fast-paced environment requiring constant awareness of surroundings and safety hazards

Schedule/Travel Requirements

· Full-time position

· Typical work weeks range from 40 to 60 hours

· Overtime and overnight travel may be required

· Travel required based on job location
