Job description

The Door Captain provides assistance with guest needs, hotel needs and department needs. Provides service to our guests at a consistent level in accordance with the Ojai Valley Inn standards and regulations.  Provides a warm, hospitable greeting and salutation to all guests, realizing that the Guest Services Team creates the first and last impressions of the guest experience.  Ensures that all resort guests are oriented to the property professionally and offered services in accordance with their needs. Ensures that all resort guest vehicles are recorded and registered to each room.  Ensures that damage is appropriately recorded on all tickets. Ensures that all guest vehicles are treated with care and respect and that safety is of the utmost importance.  

STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS:

Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities.  To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently. Some requirements may exclude individuals who pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of themselves, other associates or guests.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential:

  • Minimum one (1) year previous experience in a similar position at a Four or Five Diamond Hotel.

  • Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.

  • Ability to write legibly.

  • Proven ability to motivate a team.

  • Experience training staff members.

  • Clear thinker in pressure situations and exercise good judgments.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in the capacity of Door Captain or Valet Supervisor at an upscale hotel/resort.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the associate occupying this position.  Associates will be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor.

  • Handle incoming and departing guests: greet, park, retrieve cars, and provide luggage assistance, ensuring the security of vehicles in valet.

  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a professional, service- oriented manner

  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with OVIS Standards as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel

  • Maintain high standards of appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag while working

  • Manage shift checklists and ensure completion with valet team.

  • Performing internal audits on damage checks and recording data as needed.

  • Auditing of Forbes standards for the department.

  • Maintain knowledge of:

    • Scheduled daily activities.

    • Daily arrivals and departures.

    • Hotel features, services and amenities.

    • Hours of operation for each outlet. 

  • Comply at all times with OVI standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations

  • Be available to give directions or order transportation for guests

  • Other duties as assigned
