Position Summary:
The Chief Development and Communications Officer (CDCO) is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and reports directly to the President and CEO. This executive leads the organization's fundraising, marketing, and communications efforts and serves as the chief ambassador for Sheltering Arms.
The CDCO partners closely with the Board of Directors, staff, donors, community leaders, and corporate and foundation partners to advance Sheltering Arms' mission and secure the resources needed for long-term sustainability.
The Opportunity:
The Chief Development and Communications Officer will lead Sheltering Arms' comprehensive fundraising and communications strategy, directing a development program that generates approximately $4 million in annual philanthropic revenue while creating sustainable year-over-year growth. Success in this role will be measured by expanding the organization's philanthropic reach, strengthening relationships with donors, corporations, and community partners, diversifying revenue sources, and building a culture of philanthropy that supports Sheltering Arms' long-term mission and strategic vision.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or a related field; certifications in fundraising, marketing, or related disciplines are a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience in a nonprofit organization, preferably in early childhood education, education services, or human services.
  • Demonstrated success cultivating and expanding donor relationships and managing multiple donor sources.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising best practices, donor stewardship, and development operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor database systems (Raiser's Edge or similar).
