Position Summary
Our client, a steel framing manufacturer in Gary, Indiana, is seeking an experienced Associate Controller to join its accounting team. This is a full-time, on-site position reporting to the Controller and offers significant growth opportunities through hands-on exposure across all areas of accounting and finance.
The Associate Controller will support accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, general ledger accounting, month-end closing, cost accounting, inventory, payroll, compliance, lender reporting, and financial reporting.
This position is designed for a seasoned accounting professional looking to expand responsibilities and be positioned for the next level.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
  • Manage accounts receivable, collections, customer invoicing, cash receipts, and aging analysis.
  • Process accounts payable, vendor invoices, payment runs, accruals, and vendor reconciliations.
  • Perform cash reconciliations, journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities and prepare financial reporting schedules.

Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Assist with preparation of financial statements, supporting schedules, cash flow reporting, and consolidated reporting.
  • Support KPI tracking and analysis.
  • Help improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting accuracy.

Manufacturing & Cost Accounting
  • Support standard cost accounting, inventory reconciliations, cycle counts, and variance analysis.
  • Partner with operations to understand the company's manufacturing processes, inventory flow, and cost drivers.
  • Assist with cost-related reporting and analysis.

Payroll, Tax & Compliance
  • Support payroll accounting, withholding taxes, sales and use tax documentation, and compliance reporting.
  • Prepare documentation for audits, tax filings, and external advisors.
  • Maintain compliance schedules, including ASC 842 lease accounting when applicable.

Lender Reporting
  • Prepare supporting schedules for borrowing base reports, bank covenants, and lender reporting packages.
  • Assist with reconciliations and reporting accuracy.

Experience and Skills
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 7 plus years' experience in an accounting role
  • Experience with payroll and withholding tax accounting, standard cost accounting, financial statement preparation, consolidations, cash reconciliations, accrual accounting, AR, collections, AP, borrowing base reporting, bank covenants, and ASC 842 lease accounting.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Interest in advancing into accounting leadership.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CPA candidate.
  • Manufacturing, inventory, or cost accounting experience.
  • Experience with Invex ERP by Invera preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Work Environment
Collaborative and hands on environment. Occasional additional hours may be required during month-end, year-end closing, and reporting periods.
