Job description

This position is located in the Division of Facilities and Transportation Services, Bureau of Enterprise Fleet and will be headquartered at 3400 Miller Street, Madison, WI 53704.
The State of Wisconsin's flight department is a professional team that serves a diverse customer base of state government entities, including State officials and officers. Our team of mechanics, pilots, and staff focuses on providing excellent customer service and passenger safety as we assist state government in providing important public services across the state. Wisconsin Enterprise Air Services has four turbine engine and 15 piston engine aircraft. This position provides an opportunity to join the ranks of state public service and participate in the generous state benefit plan, as well.

Position Summary
The Aircraft Mechanic is responsible for performing technical maintenance and repair work on the enterprise fleet of aircraft, including single and multi-engine aircraft. The enterprise fleet includes 1998 Beechcraft King Air 350, 2001 Pilatus PC12, Cessna 172s, Cessna 337, and single engine Cessna aircraft, used by the Department of Administration, Department of Transportation, and Department of Natural Resources to fulfill state business and operational needs. The fleet includes aircraft with advanced systems, such as Garmin 1000 avionics and EFIS 40/50 systems as well as Pratt and Whitney PT6 turbine engine systems. Maintenance work may involve troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing, and replacing aircraft components and systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
The Aircraft Mechanic performs annual and progressive inspections, as required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and performs, inspects, or approves aircraft for return to service after a major repair or major alteration.
Aircraft Mechanics perform routine scheduled inspections but are also expected to be available for unscheduled issues and respond to emergency situations that may affect aircraft safety or operational readiness.
This position will make independent decisions regarding aircraft safety and regulatory compliance in accordance with FAA standards and agency policies.

Salary Information
Starting salary for the Aircraft Mechanic (06-63) will be between $30.00 and $43.66 per hour. Pay for current state employees will be in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Aircraft Mechanics who meet license requirements to pilot may receive an additional $5.00/hr for in flight status.

Job Details
Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct fingerprinting and background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F-1 international students. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have the following :
  1. Experience performing general aviation aircraft maintenance, airframe repair and modification, and troubleshooting electrical or avionics systems
  2. Possession of a FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
