JOB SUMMARY

The Divisional Merchandise Manager (DMM) establishes the strategic product vision and category direction for their division, driving the development of compelling assortments that strengthen customer relevance, accelerate revenue growth, and reinforce At Home's leadership in home decor and furnishings. The DMM identifies emerging customer trends, market opportunities, and category white spaces to shape differentiated product strategies and assortments across Good, Better, and Best price tiers.

Through leadership of the merchandising organization and close partnership with Planning, Sourcing, Design, Marketing, Operations, and Digital teams, the DMM aligns cross-functional efforts around a clear product vision that delivers exceptional value through design, quality, innovation, and price. This leader champions big ideas that inspire customers, create meaningful differentiation, and unlock new avenues for growth while consistently delivering sales, margin, and inventory productivity goals.

The DMM serves as the strategic leader for the division, balancing customer insights, market trends, financial objectives, and competitive opportunities to build category strategies drive profitable growth, increase market relevance, and create long-term enterprise value.

Financial Leadership & Business Performance

  • Owns the division's financial performance, balancing customer relevance, growth opportunities, profitability, inventory productivity, and return on investment. 
  • Establishes and guides strategies to achieve and exceed sales, margin, market share, inventory turn, and cash flow objectives. 
  • Partners with Planning to develop and execute financial strategies that align category investments with enterprise priorities and growth opportunities. 
  • Evaluates category, assortment, and product performance to identify risks, opportunities, and actions that maximize financial results. 
  • Guides investment decisions across assortments, inventory, innovation, and category expansion initiatives to optimize long-term business performance.  
  • Ensures product, pricing, and promotional strategies support both customer value perception and sustainable profitability. 
  • Drives a culture of financial accountability and data-driven decision making throughout the merchandising organization. 

Product Vision & Category Strategy

  • Establishes the long-term product vision and category strategies that drive customer relevance, market differentiation, and sustainable revenue growth.
  • Identifies significant growth opportunities, emerging trends, and category white spaces that inform investment priorities and merchandise strategies.
  • Defines the role of Good, Better, and Best product offerings within the division to ensure compelling customer choice, strong value perception, and profitable growth.
  • Champions category reinventions and transformative "Big Ideas" that strengthen At Home's competitive position and customer appeal.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Guides and aligns Planning, Sourcing, Design, Marketing, Operations, and Digital partners around strategic product priorities and business objectives.
  • Influences cross-functional decision-making to ensure assortments deliver exceptional value through the optimal combination of design, quality, innovation, and price.
  • Partners with Sourcing to drive product development priorities that support the division's vision and financial goals.

Product Development, Innovation & Strategic Partnerships

  • Champions product development priorities in partnership with Sourcing and key supplier partners to bring differentiated, customer-relevant products to market.
  • Cultivates strategic vendor relationships that provide access to innovation, exclusive product opportunities, trend insights, and competitive advantages.
  • Guides the development of proprietary and exclusive product assortments that strengthen At Home's market position and support long-term growth objectives.
  • Partners closely with Sourcing and vendor partners to drive innovation in design, quality, materials, functionality, and value engineering.
  • Ensures supplier partnerships are aligned with divisional product strategies and support the delivery of exceptional customer value across Good, Better, and Best assortments.
  • Champions a culture of continuous product innovation, encouraging teams and partners to identify new opportunities that enhance customer relevance and drive incremental revenue.

Customer & Market Leadership

  • Serves as the voice of the customer by translating consumer insights, cultural trends, and competitive intelligence into actionable product and assortment strategies.
  • Anticipates shifts in customer preferences and market dynamics to proactively position the business for growth.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Builds and develops a high-performing merchandising organization through coaching, mentorship, succession planning, and talent development. 
  • Creates a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning that enables teams to deliver exceptional business results. 
  • Inspires teams to think strategically, embrace customer-centric decision making, and identify opportunities that drive growth and competitive advantage. 
  • Develops future merchandising leaders by providing clear direction, meaningful feedback, and opportunities for increased responsibility and impact. 
  • Fosters strong partnerships and alignment across the merchandising pyramid, creating a collaborative environment that maximizes team effectiveness and organizational performance. 

Enterprise Execution & Customer Experience

  • Serves as a key partner to Marketing, Stores, and Digital teams to ensure divisional strategies are effectively translated into compelling customer experiences across all channels. 
  • Guides the development of integrated product stories, seasonal campaigns, and merchandising strategies that drive customer engagement, traffic, and conversion. 
  • Ensures assortments, visual presentation, digital content, and promotional activities work together to deliver a seamless omnichannel customer experience. 
  • Partners with Store Operations to ensure merchandising strategies are executable, intuitive for customers, and aligned with operational capabilities. 
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Digital teams to maximize the impact of product launches, category reinventions, and key growth initiatives. 
  • Champions flawless execution of divisional priorities, ensuring strategic objectives are consistently delivered through coordinated cross-functional action.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive merchandising leadership experience with increasing responsibility for category management, financial performance, and team leadership. 
  • Proven success leading large-scale retail businesses and delivering sustained sales, margin, and inventory productivity growth. 
  • Experience managing and developing high-performing merchant organizations. 
Strategic Leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to identify market opportunities, develop growth strategies, and translate customer insights into successful product and assortment initiatives. 
  • Strong understanding of consumer trends, competitive dynamics, and retail merchandising best practices. 
  • Experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders and driving alignment across complex organizations. 
Financial Acumen
  • Exceptional financial and analytical skills with deep knowledge of sales, margin, markup, inventory productivity, open-to-buy, and assortment planning. 
  • Demonstrated ability to balance creative product vision with financial discipline, translating customer and market opportunities into sustainable business growth. 
Product & Vendor Leadership
  • Experience developing differentiated product strategies through close collaboration with sourcing teams and supplier partners. 
  • Proven ability to build strategic vendor relationships that drive innovation, exclusivity, quality, and value. 
Leadership & Communication
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills. 
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and drive results in a fast-paced retail environment.
