Job description

Our Financial Management and Procurement Services division is seeking a Financial Analyst who will function as a key member of the Division's management team responsible for the budgetary and accounting information.
As a Financial Analyst, the selected candidate will primarily support the Strategic Security Sciences (SSS) Division and will respond to a number of ad hoc requests for budgetary and accounting information from DOE, Laboratory management, Directorate management, Division management and programmatic staff, often involving complex analyses and short deadlines.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare or manage the preparation of monthly, routine, and ad hoc financial reports and analyses, usually under tight time constraints.
  • Prepare financial data for reviews and presentations, prepare cost estimates for funding proposals, and plan and control expenditures for organization units.
  • Perform complex financial analysis and cost control functions; research and synthesize data; identify trends, draw conclusions; develop solutions; present and implement recommendations, and create follow up analysis.
  • Provide guidance on financial policies, procedures and requirements while maintaining broader organizational perspective.
  • Develop regular and ad-hoc reports of complex financial data; identify and resolve unique issues with substantial significance.
  • Provide consulting advice to stakeholders on matters involving complex financial subject matter expertise including proposal development.
  • Monitor spending, analyze variances, identify funding problems, identify, and resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Exercise funds control over purchases, subcontracts, service contracts, travel, service requests, material orders, effort charges, etc.

This role requires an on-site presence of 3+ days per week in Lemont, Illinois.
Position Requirements
  • PA4: Bachelor's and 6+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent.
  • Advanced knowledge of budget management, financial analysis, and basic accounting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in business applications.
  • Skills in managing and querying databases to run reports via Excel and Access.
  • Knowledge of program/divisional financial activities.
  • Knowledge of direct and indirect allocation and full cost recovery budget and financial procedures.
  • Knowledge of Strategic Partnership Projects and CRADAs.
  • Knowledge of proposal documentation and flow.
  • Analytical and quantitative skills and ability to organize and manage financial situations.
  • Ability to work under limited direction to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Extreme attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt to change.
  • Ability to cross-train and mentor team members.

The expected hiring range for this position is $95,250.00 - $148,590.00.
