APT Research is hiring a Government Defense & Other Agencies Division Manager in Huntsville, AL.

This position requires the ability to:

  • Lead strategic growth, operational excellence, and financial performance for the Government Defense & Other Agencies Division
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with government, commercial, and industry customers
  • Provide leadership that develops employees, fosters collaboration, and strengthens APT's employee-owned culture
  • Drive successful execution of contracts while supporting the company's long-term business growth objectives

Division Management Responsibilities

  • Define and implement plans to reach division goals (e.g., revenue, profit, etc.)
  • Grow division through exceptional contract execution, strategic customer engagement, and successful pursuit of new business opportunities
  • Be a visible and well-connected ambassador to current and prospective customers
  • Develop and leverage strategic customer and industry relationships to expand APT's market presence and identify new opportunities
  • Represent APT professionally with customers, industry partners, and professional organizations to strengthen the company's reputation and business relationships
  • Provide proposal support; this includes generating and/or reviewing proposal documents, especially with respect to cost estimation, bid pricing, setting/managing management reserve, and profitability targets
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing talent while ensuring the division has the resources necessary for successful execution
  • Resolve issues associated with division contracts and personnel
  • Provide executive-level reporting on division performance, financial results, customer engagement, business development activities, and contract execution. on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis
  • Flow issues up to senior management as appropriate
  • Be an ambassador of corporate level mission, vision, and culture, down and in the division
  • Be an engaged and contributing member of the corporate leadership team, up and out from the division
  • Own division financial performance including revenue, profitability, forecasting, backlog, and utilization
  • Partner with Chief Growth Officer and Business Development team to identify, pursue, and win new business opportunities
  • Identify strategic, financial, and program risks, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies

Employee Management Responsibilities

  • Communicate with division employees; keep open communication lines with division employees, senior management, and other division managers
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing employee-owned culture that promotes engagement, innovation and professional growth
  • Prepare Division inputs for monthly APT all-hands meeting and monthly newsletter
  • Recognize and reward employee performance through formal and informal recognition programs via APT monthly and annual award nominations
  • Lead/manage division employees performance goal setting process and monitor goals throughout the year
  • Perform mid-year and year-end employee assessments, recommend year-end employee raises and performance incentives
  • Mentor, coach, and develop employees while supporting succession planning and leadership development.
  • Foster collaboration across divisions to maximize APT capabilities and customer success

Contract Management Responsibilities

  • Deliver monthly financial reports, monthly activity report, contract DRDs accurately and on-time
  • Collaborate and negotiate with customers; manage employees on the contract; respond to ROM requests
  • Review and negotiate contract documents, including contract modifications, statement of work(s), etc.
  • Manage contracts and subcontractors (oversee work, initiate subcontract mods (when needed), review/approve subcontractor invoices)
  • Optimize workforce planning, labor utilization, and resource allocation to meet customer, contract, and business objectives
  • Initiate "at risk" decisions when required
  • Ensure integrity, customer satisfaction, and customer relationships
  • Prepare cost estimates and proposals

Decision-Making Authority

  • Personnel hires, employee performance management, employee termination
  • Day-to-day customer decisions
  • Monitor and control contract costs
  • Financial authority up to thresholds outlined in corporate policies

Required Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience managing government or commercial programs, organizations, or business units supporting (i.e., AMCOM, MDA, SMDC, etc.) and/or commercial customers (i.e. Raytheon, Northrup Grumman, Boeing, etc.)
  • 10+ years of experience in Safety, Quality, Mission Assurance (i.e. system safety, reliability and maintainability, quality, software assurance, risk management, etc.)
  • Effective and professional communicator, compelling face and voice of APT to broad market sector

Security Clearance Requirement

  • Active Secret or Top-Secret security clearance

Preferred Experience

  • PMP certification
  • Ability to utilize Excel & other Microsoft Office 365 products
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work with minimal direction
  • Experience managing Cost-Plus, Fixed-Price, and Time-and-Materials contracts
