Job description

Job Summary:
The School Safety Liaison, under the leadership of the Director of School Safety, will maintain a safe and secure learning environment for students, employees, and visitors. The School Safety Liaison assists with establishing and enforcing Cook County School District 130 safety and security policies, access control procedures, accident prevention efforts, as well as supporting risk management efforts, fire, safety, emergency management, and traffic enforcement programs. 
 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conducts safety and security surveys. 

  • Assists in the de-escalation of parents and students. 

  • Monitors interior and exterior grounds. 

  • Monitors arrival and dismissal, transitions between classes, and lunch periods.  

  • Assists with school campus traffic and parking. 

  • Assists administrators with investigations, as directed. 

  • Secures and opens facilities in accordance with schedule and as needed for special functions. 

  • Completes Incident Report(s) and makes notifications as required. 

  • Assists staff with safety drills and evacuations. 

  • Duties may include periodic overtime to support after school or evening activities. 

  • Follows the District's security plan and security-related policies and regulations.  

  • Assists the building administration in responding to school emergencies and crisis situations.  

  • Serves as a link between units responding to a crisis on school property and school staff. 

  • Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school. 

  • Serves as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating a positive attitude, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic. 

  • Participates in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attends any required meetings. 


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. 

  • Two or more years of safety/security experience required. 

  • Experience in law enforcement, school security and/or public safety. 

  •  Knowledge of security measures, security policies and procedures, and crisis management. 

  •  Knowledge of current laws and regulations governing search and seizure activities. 

  •  Ability to maintain order and to work with groups and individuals on matters of security and crisis management. 

  • Valid Illinois driver's license. 

Salary and Benefits:

  • $22.72 to $25.22 per hour commensurate with relevant experience. 

  • Paid sick days and personal days provided.

Working Conditions:

  • Work hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

  • 11-month position (August through June).  

  • Position requires travel to various sites throughout the District. 

  • Duties may include periodic overtime to support after school or evening activities.
