Dispensary Technician

Location: Newark, NJ

Pay Rate: $23.00 per hour

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Dispensary Technician to support daily dental clinic and dispensary operations. Under general supervision, the Dispensary Technician will maintain dental supplies and instruments, prepare treatment areas, support sterilization processes, assist providers and postgraduate students as needed, and help ensure a safe, clean, and well-organized clinical environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, a commitment to infection control and patient safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced dental environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain the dental dispensary and ensure treatment areas are properly stocked, organized, and prepared for daily operations.

• Prepare instruments for sterilization by delivering instruments for processing, retrieving sterilized instruments, stocking supplies, and preparing instruments for provider access.

• Assist dental providers and postgraduate students with patient seating, chair adjustments, protective draping, and other clinical support activities as needed.

• Prepare and provide dental materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments according to provider instructions.

• Support digital dental radiography by exposing and scanning radiographs using intraoral digital sensors, as applicable.

• Monitor dental supply inventory by checking stock levels, anticipating supply needs, and submitting supply requests according to departmental procedures.

• Assist with preparing treatment and surgical areas before and after procedures, including implant procedures.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment while following infection control policies and departmental protocols.

• Handle dental equipment and instruments appropriately to prevent damage and extend equipment life.

• Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, or damaged instruments to the appropriate personnel.

• Assist with patient education regarding oral hygiene, plaque control, and post-operative instructions as directed by the provider.

• Assist with communicating patient information and treatment-related materials, including patient treatment contracts.

• Work collaboratively with dentists, postgraduate students, clinical staff, and other department personnel to support quality patient care.

• Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy requirements.

• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a dental, healthcare, clinical, dispensary, or medical support environment preferred.

• Experience with dental instruments, supplies, sterilization procedures, or infection control is a plus.

• Strong organizational and inventory management skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.

• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented clinical environment.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to handle instruments, supplies, and clinical equipment safely and appropriately.

• Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, cleanliness, and infection control.

Work Environment

Compensation

$23.00 per hour
