We are currently seeking a Lead Yard Material Handler/Assistant Dispatcher to join our team. This role is ideal for a motivated self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, leading by example, and helping ensure our yard and dispatch operations run safely and efficiently each day.


Position Summary

The Lead Yard Material Handler serves as a key partner to the Yard Manager, helping coordinate daily yard and dispatch operations to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate delivery of building materials. This role provides leadership and support to the yard team, assists with dispatch coordination, helps maintain inventory accuracy, and ensures exceptional service for both customers and internal teams.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support daily dispatch operations, including scheduling deliveries, returns, and route adjustments.
  • Coordinate order pulling, staging, loading, and invoicing activities to support on-time deliveries.
  • Serve as a communication link between sales, dispatch, drivers, and yard personnel.
  • Assist with receiving, inventory management, cycle counts, and material transfers.
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and secure yard environment.
  • Verify order accuracy and ensure quality standards are met before loading.
  • Assist customers with material loading and product pickup.
  • Provide coverage for dispatch and yard operations as needed.
  • Support and mentor team members while promoting safe work practices and operational excellence.


Requirements


  • High school diploma or equivalent required; related education or building materials industry experience preferred.
  • Previous lumberyard, construction materials, distribution, or logistics experience preferred.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Clean driving record required.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness and ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 70 pounds and working in an active outdoor environment.
  • Strong computer skills and attention to detail.
