Northrop Grumman is in need of a Manufacturing Technician - level 2 or 3 to work at its Elkton, Maryland facility.

Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow the directions of supervision and lead technicians for the fabrication of rocket motors and subcomponents. Works with chemicals during the processing of rocket motor components.
  • Candidates must be able to read and follow written or electronic manufacturing instructions. Must be able to work closely with non-manufacturing personnel to meet build requirements and schedules.
  • Safe handling of hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and company policies.
  • Operate production equipment such as cutting tables (Geber), mixers, presses, scales, hoists, forklift, ovens, autoclaves and computers. Operate various instruments such as verniers, durometers, heightgage and resistance meters.
  • Support many areas of manufacturing such as -Ordnance, Casting, Final Assembly, and Lining when workload requires additional labor.

This requisition may be filled at either Manufacturing Technician 2 or Manufacturing Technician 3, depending on years of experience and qualifications.

Basic Qualifications Manufacturing Technician 2:

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years overall work experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred hands-on assembly manufacturing experience
  • Good reading and math skills.
  • Personal hobbies such as crafting, sewing, woodworking, or metal working.
  • Must be able to be certified for respirator use, competent to be trained in forklift and hoist operation.
  • Must be able to work modified shifts, overtime and weekends, if needed, and have some flexible working hours to staff production needs.
  • Blueprint reading fundamentals are required or the aptitude to learn blueprint reading.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications Manufacturing Technician 3:

  • High School Diploma
  • 4 years overall work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hand assembly highly preferred
  • Able to fabricate components out of rubber or composites
  • Able to organize and plan daily work
  • Good reading and math skills.
  • Personal hobbies such as crafting, sewing, woodworking, or metal working.
  • Must be able to be certified for respirator use, competent to be trained in forklift and hoist operation.
  • Must be able to work modified shifts, overtime and weekends, if needed, and have some flexible working hours to staff production needs.
  • Blueprint reading fundamentals are required or the aptitude to learn blueprint reading.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Hand assembly or personal crafting experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing, assembly or mechanics position
  • Defense Industry experience
  • Computerknowledge in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word
  • Familiar with Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by theBureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.

Primary Level Salary Range: $49,100.00 - $81,800.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $58,300.00 - $97,100.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
