What is a Discord Server job?

A Discord Server job involves managing and moderating a community on the Discord platform. Responsibilities may include setting up channels, enforcing rules, engaging with members, and handling bots or integrations. Some roles focus on administration, while others emphasize community engagement, content creation, or tech support. The position is common in gaming, business, and online communities to ensure smooth communication and user experience.

Can you get paid for having a Discord server?

A Discord server owner can generate income through monetization methods such as paid memberships, server subscriptions, or offering exclusive content. However, Discord's terms of service prohibit using the platform solely for commercial purposes without proper compliance, and earning potential depends on the server's size, engagement, and monetization strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Discord Server position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Discord Server Moderator or Community Manager, you need strong community management skills, familiarity with online communication platforms, and the ability to enforce server policies. Experience with Discord's moderation tools, bots, and basic understanding of server settings is typically required. Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and conflict resolution abilities help you engage members and handle sensitive situations effectively. These skills are vital to foster a positive, safe, and active server community environment.

What are some common challenges faced by Discord Server Moderators or Community Managers?

Discord Server Moderators and Community Managers often encounter challenges such as mediating disputes between members, curbing spam or inappropriate content, and keeping engagement levels high. They may also need to adapt quickly to changes in server activity, especially during events or rapid member growth. Balancing enforcement of rules with maintaining a welcoming atmosphere requires patience and sound judgment. However, these experiences also help moderators develop valuable skills in digital communication, conflict resolution, and community leadership.

Developer Relations Manager - Perplexity API Platform

Perplexity

San Francisco, CA • On-site

Full-time

Job description

Job Summary:
Perplexity is a company that powers AI experiences across a billion devices and is seeking a Developer Relations Manager for their API platform. The role involves representing the API at events, managing the developer community, creating educational content, and translating developer feedback into product improvements.
Responsibilities:
• Represent our APIs at conferences, hackathons, and developer meetups — not as a booth rep, but as a credible builder who has shipped with our stack.
• Run workshops, AMAs, and webinars that go deep on the Search API, Agent API, Embeddings, and MCP server.
• Amplify developer projects publicly — on X, Discord, Reddit, and wherever the best builders congregate.
• Own our developer forum, Discord, and Reddit presence — triage, moderate, and make sure no high-signal question goes unanswered.
• Organize hackathons and build nights. Handle everything from prize scoping and API credit grants to live event support and post-event ROI writeups.
• Convert repeated questions and friction points into docs updates, Cookbook examples, and better onboarding — close the loop between community and product.
• Write tutorials, changelogs, and technical blog posts that developers forward to each other — not marketing copy dressed up as docs.
• Build and maintain Cookbook examples: RAG pipelines, agent workflows, multi-provider SDK demos, n8n integrations, MCP starters — things developers can run on day one.
• Coordinate launch content across docs, social, Discord, and forum so every API release lands consistently and builds momentum.
• Sit with developers to troubleshoot integrations — and synthesize those conversations into structured feedback for product and engineering.
• Monitor the competitive landscape and surface differentiation opportunities for GTM and product teams.
• Maintain the partner integration pipeline and help scale the Startups credits program beyond its current manual state.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 4+ years in DevRel or Developer Advocacy with measurable results — you can name the campaigns and quote the outcomes.
• You've shipped code. Comfortable with API integrations, SDKs, and modern web tooling. You can read a diff, write a working example, and spot when docs are wrong.
• Exceptional communicator across formats — conference talk, changelog entry, Reddit reply — all in the same day.
• Operationally sharp. You've managed community platforms, run event logistics, and kept multiple workstreams moving without things falling through the cracks.
• Growth-minded. You connect every initiative to business impact and you've built or meaningfully improved a developer activation funnel.
• Collaborative by default. You thrive at the intersection of product, engineering, and marketing — and you're comfortable pushing back when developer needs aren't being met.
Company:
Perplexity is an AI-powered platform that retrieves, analyzes information from the web to deliver structured answers with cited sources. Founded in 2022, the company is headquartered in San Francisco, USA, with a team of 201-500 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
