Job Summary
The Director of Enterprise Infrastructure provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and long-range planning for enterprise infrastructure services at Clayton State University. This position leads the Enterprise Infrastructure team and is responsible for the planning, implementation, operation, security, reliability, and continuous improvement of the University's core technology infrastructure.
This role oversees enterprise systems, network services, cloud platforms, data center operations, identity and access management, storage, backup and disaster recovery services, and related infrastructure technologies. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to IT leadership, ensuring that infrastructure investments and services align with University priorities, support academic innovation and operational effectiveness, and comply with applicable University System of Georgia policies and other regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Technology Planning
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive enterprise infrastructure strategy aligned with University goals and institutional priorities.
- Serve as a senior technology advisor to the VP-IT/CIO on infrastructure strategy, technology risk, emerging trends, and long-term planning.
- Lead the development and management of a multi-year capital technology roadmap, including infrastructure lifecycle planning and technology refresh strategies.
- Identify opportunities to modernize infrastructure services through automation, cloud adoption, simplification, standardization, and operational efficiencies.
- Establish infrastructure standards, architectural governance, and best practices that support scalability, interoperability, resilience, and sustainability.
Enterprise Infrastructure Operations
- Provide leadership and oversight for the Enterprise Infrastructure team, including systems engineering and network services functions.
- Ensure the availability, performance, reliability, and security of core infrastructure services that support University operations.
- Oversee enterprise platforms, including servers, storage, virtualization, cloud services, identity services, backup and recovery systems, and network technologies.
- Direct infrastructure monitoring, capacity planning, service performance management, maintenance planning, and operational documentation.
- Lead efforts to strengthen infrastructure resilience, disaster recovery readiness, and business continuity capabilities.
Cloud, Systems Architecture & Modernization
- Guide cloud strategy, migration planning, and adoption initiatives that improve agility, security, and service delivery.
- Ensure infrastructure architecture supports current and future academic, administrative, and operational requirements.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve reliability, security, cost-effectiveness, and institutional value.
- Promote standardization, automation, and simplification across infrastructure platforms and services.
Cybersecurity, Compliance & Risk Management
- Collaborate with cybersecurity leadership to strengthen the University's security posture and protect critical technology assets.
- Ensure infrastructure operations align with applicable USG policies, University policies, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Support vulnerability management, incident response, disaster recovery testing, and business continuity planning activities.
- Partner with appropriate stakeholders to support compliance with requirements such as FERPA, HIPAA, PCI DSS, GLBA, Red Flags, and related frameworks, as applicable.
Financial, Vendor & Service Management
- Develop and manage infrastructure operating and capital budgets in alignment with institutional priorities.
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, service agreements, renewals, procurement activities, and technology evaluations.
- Drive IT service management best practices to improve service delivery, operational transparency, and customer satisfaction.
- Use metrics, service standards, and continuous improvement practices to enhance infrastructure performance and accountability.
Leadership, Staff Development & Campus Collaboration
- Recruit, lead, mentor, develop, and retain high-performing technology professionals.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, customer service excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Establish performance expectations, support professional growth, and promote effective team communication.
- Collaborate with academic, administrative, facilities, and operational stakeholders on campus technology initiatives.
- Serve as a contributor to University committees, cross-functional planning efforts, and strategic technology projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible technology leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise infrastructure, systems engineering, network operations, or related technology teams.
- Experience developing and implementing enterprise technology strategies, infrastructure roadmaps, and long-range technology plans.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise networking, cloud platforms, virtualization, storage, backup and recovery systems, identity management, and related infrastructure technologies.
- Experience managing technology budgets, contracts, vendor relationships, procurement activities, and service agreements.
- Demonstrated success in leading technology modernization, operational improvement, and organizational change initiatives.
- Strong communication, collaboration, customer service, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience supporting compliance requirements, policy expectations, or regulatory frameworks relevant to enterprise technology environments.
- Commitment to service excellence, operational reliability, security, continuous improvement, and institutional mission support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Experience working in higher education, the public sector, or similarly complex, service-oriented environments.
- Experience developing and managing 5-to-10-year technology roadmaps and infrastructure lifecycle programs.
- Demonstrated leadership in cloud transformation, digital modernization, infrastructure automation, or enterprise architecture initiatives.
- Experience working within the University System of Georgia or a similar governance environment.
- Knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, GLBA, PCI DSS, Red Flags, and related compliance standards.
- Industry certifications such as ITIL, CISSP, PMP, CCNP, CCIE, Microsoft Azure, AWS, VMware, or related credentials.
- Proven ability to build, lead, and sustain high-performing technology teams.
