The Manager, DevOps & Systems Administration is a key leadership role within Technology Services responsible for the operational management, security, reliability, and continuous improvement of enterprise systems administration, database services, DevOps capabilities, and automation services. The role ensures critical technology services are available, secure, resilient, and aligned with business objectives and service commitments.

Leading teams responsible for Systems Administration, Database Administration, and DevOps practices, the incumbent oversees the lifecycle management of enterprise operating environments across development, testing, production, and disaster recovery. The role balances operational support, automation, security, risk management, and modernization initiatives while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence.

Working closely with business stakeholders, architecture teams, service owners, and Information Services leaders, the Manager supports the successful delivery of technology services through effective operations, automation, monitoring, resiliency planning, and technical leadership.

What you’ll be doing:

Enterprise Systems & Service Operations

  • Lead the delivery and support of enterprise systems, database services, and application-hosting environments.
  • Ensure technology services are secure, reliable, resilient, and available to meet business needs.
  • Oversee operational support, lifecycle management, monitoring, and disaster recovery readiness of managed environments.
  • Provide leadership and escalation support for critical incidents and operational risks.
  • Establish and monitor operational performance metrics, service level objectives, and continuous service improvement initiatives.

DevOps & Automation

  • Advance automation capabilities that improve service reliability, operational efficiency, and deployment consistency.
  • Promote DevOps practices, continuous improvement, and standardized operational processes.
  • Enable the use of modern automation and delivery tools to reduce manual effort and improve service quality.
  • Support the adoption of monitoring, observability, and proactive operational management practices.

Systems Strategy & Modernization

  • Develop strategies that improve enterprise systems, database services, and hosted application environments.
  • Partner with Architecture, Security, and Infrastructure teams to ensure technology services align with enterprise technology strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to modernize services, reduce operational risk, and improve business outcomes.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements aligned to organizational objectives.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of technical professionals.
  • Ensure effective workforce planning, capacity management, and technical skill development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Ensure effective resource planning, succession planning, and workforce development.

Governance, Security & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards, security requirements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Lead vulnerability remediation, operational resiliency, disaster recovery readiness, and audit support activities.
  • Promote best practices related to security, change management, and operational governance.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Build strong relationships with business leaders, technology teams, and service stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across Information Services to deliver reliable and effective technology services.
  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure performance, support, and value delivery.

Project & Portfolio Delivery

  • Lead the delivery of technology initiatives supporting operational excellence and service modernization.
  • Balance operational commitments with project priorities to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Contribute to technology planning, budgeting, and resource management activities.

What you bring: 

Experience and Education

  • Minimum 10–15 years of progressive Information Technology experience within a complex enterprise environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing systems administration, database administration, DevOps, automation, or related technology teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading operational support, service delivery, automation, and technology modernization initiatives.
  • Experience managing enterprise operating environments supporting critical business applications and services.
  • Experience overseeing vulnerability management, disaster recovery preparedness, operational resiliency, and audit compliance activities.
  • Experience managing strategic vendors, technology partnerships, and service providers.
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Financial services experience is considered an asset.

Technical Knowledge & Expertise

  • Windows Server administration and lifecycle management.
  • Linux administration and lifecycle management.
  • Microsoft SQL Server administration, database operations, backup, recovery, and performance optimization.
  • Enterprise monitoring, observability, logging, and alerting platforms.
  • Identity and access management technologies.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform or equivalent automation frameworks.
  • Vulnerability management, patch management, security remediation, and system hardening practices.
  • Azure-hosted virtual machines and supporting cloud services.
  • Enterprise application-hosting environments.
  • Server configuration management and operational automation.
  • Configuration management using Ansible or similar automation tools.
  • Azure DevOps, source control management, release management, and CI/CD practices.
  • Disaster recovery planning, operational resiliency, and business continuity readiness.
  • Enterprise networking concepts required to support hosted services and applications.

 Work Arrangement

  • Remote First work arrangement.
  • Participation in an on-call or escalation rotation will be required.
  • Availability outside standard business hours to support critical incidents, maintenance activities, and major technology implementations.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

The business may from time-to-time request department support for special projects and/or areas experiencing resource constraints.
