This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal and external stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language for this role is English.  As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English.

Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $110,000 - $135,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

Working under limited supervision, this job plays a critical role in delivering large, complex, and strategic initiatives that support Wawanesa's strategic priorities. This role ensures that projects are executed with discipline, transparency, and alignment to strategic priorities. The Senior Project Manager is accountable for managing cross-functional teams, third-party vendors, and internal stakeholders to deliver measurable outcomes and value.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of large-scale, strategic projects, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and the EPMO's strategic execution framework.
  • Develop and manage integrated project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations using approved methodologies and tools.
  • Manage project decisions, risks, issues, dependencies, and change requests.
  • Collaborate with Portfolio Planning and Business Architecture stakeholders to ensure project alignment with capability roadmaps, resource planning, and value architecture.
  • Support benefits realization by contributing to the definition of success metrics, tracking KPIs, and contributing to value creation reporting.
  • Prepare and present project updates, dashboards, and governance materials.
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts to ensure quality and accountability in third-party delivery.
  • Champion change management practices in collaboration with the Enterprise Portfolio Change stakeholders to support adoption and sustainment.
  • Drive consistent application of the EPMO methodology and tools resulting in effective and consistent delivery of projects.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of delivery standards and tools.
  • Mentor junior Project Managers and contribute to the maturity of EPMO's Project Management methodology and capabilities. 
  • Maintain accurate and transparent project documentation and reporting to stakeholders and governance forums.
  • Ensure consistent application of project management methodologies (e.g., PMI, Agile, SAFe) and tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint, MS Planner).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 7 years' experience managing large, complex, and strategic projects.
  • Formal project management training from a recognized college/university.
  • Completion of post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience using various project management methodologies and project management tools.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Information Technology principles (Architecture/Application Development/Quality Assurance/Service Delivery).
  • Communicates in a persuasive and eloquent manner to all levels of audience, effectively facilitates sessions, and delivers powerful presentations.
  • Ability to support high team morale by encouraging others to be excited, motivated, and enthusiastic about project activities and outcomes.
  • Ability to develop and implement comprehensive plans that bridge complex issues, monitors performance, and keeps work on track.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to continuously identify and action strategic opportunities for the project team and organization.
  • Project Management Professional certification is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in Property & Casualty Insurance industry is considered a strong asset
