Join a high-performing, collaborative team within our Life Sciences underwriting team, where innovation and strategic thinking drive success. We're seeking a skilled Life Sciences Underwriter to manage and grow a profitable book of business, focusing exclusively on Property & Casualty lines for the Life Sciences industry, including Products Liability and Excess Liability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new and renewal business and identify account rounding opportunities within the Life Sciences sector.
  • Manage cross-sell and up-sell opportunities across the team to expand existing accounts.
  • Apply underwriting guidelines across applicable lines of business with precision and consistency.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of industry regulations, compliance standards, and governance.
  • Make underwriting decisions within individual authority; consult with subject matter experts for complex cases.
  • Influence renewal retention and risk-reward outcomes using pricing tools and strategic planning.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to agency partners, providing guidance and support on Life Sciences risks.
  • Partner with other underwriters in the territory to drive results and deepen agency relationships.
  • Collaborate with agents to answer coverage questions and direct them to appropriate resources.
  • Work with Operations to manage mid-term changes requiring underwriting input.
  • Deliver responsive, high-quality service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of underwriting experience in the Life Sciences industry, including Products and Excess Liability.
  • Proven success in building and maintaining strong relationships with business partners.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • High-energy, self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Goal-oriented with a focus on delivering results.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and drive innovation.
  • Deep technical knowledge and sound decision-making skills.

Work Arrangement

This role offers a Hybrid work arrangement:

  • Candidates near a Hartford office are expected to work on-site Tuesday through Thursday if they are not in-market.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$96,400 - $180,000

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
