Job description
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Policy, Procedures & Operations, the Access Case Manager will directly advise students with disabilities, specifically students who are hard of hearing or deaf, determine services and accommodations based on documentation, and coordinate contracted services and transient employee schedules. The Access Case Manager will serve as an advocate and liaison between registered students and campus departments.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE
Analyze and interpret disability-related documentation to determine eligibility for services and accommodations for students with disabilities.
Serve as an advocate and liaison between students and campus departments to facilitate participation in university programs in accordance with the ADA, Section 504, and any related university policies and/or procedures.
Provide orientation and mobility training and assistance to students directly, and coordinate these services for students
Assist with note-taking software and the provision of auditory and interpreting access
Assist with coordinating DS testing services, if applicable
Participate in campus outreach and educational opportunities to advocate for students with disabilities
OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP
Improve Departmental Outreach
The Access Case Manager will provide leadership in developing and implementing a plan to expand outreach and access services for our students who are hard of hearing and deaf. As a result, Disability Services will be able to enhance the level and scope of access services for our hard-of-hearing and deaf students while helping build a more accessible campus community for all students with disabilities. The Access Case Manager will lead, train, and implement a campus auditory and interpreting access plan in order to improve support for this unique population of students.
Revise Departmental Policies & Practices to Ensure Student Support
Longstanding policies and practices only work if they don't make it harder for our students to access the critical services and assistance they need. The Access Case Manager will assist the office in examining and revising practices and policies to create more efficient, effective processes focused on the user experience.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS PRIORITIES

We work to ensure every space, place, and staff-to-student interaction communicates a sense of home to students. Finally, we design programs, services, events, and experiences with everyone in mind.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Student Support - 60%
Serve as an advocate and liaison between students and campus departments to facilitate participation in University programs. Advise students with disabilities regarding their rights and responsibilities under the ADA, Section 504, and any related university policies and/or procedures. Analyze and interpret disability-related documentation to determine eligibility for services and accommodations for students with disabilities. Work directly with students with a variety of hearing impairments to determine a plan of safety, academic access, and transportation/navigation needs on LSU Campus. Assist Access Manager, Visual Impairment Specialist with orientation and mobility dual impairment - low vision/blind and DHH. Assist and lead efforts to create accessible text and academic supplies between faculty and students.
Program Support - 20%
Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of appropriate academic support services and accommodations under ADA, Section 504, and any related university policies and/or procedures. Assist the office and university in the development and update of policies, procedures, and informational materials related to students with disabilities. Serve as the key Disability Services staff member who coordinates the development, implementation, and assessment of programs for students who are hard of hearing and deaf to increase retention, graduation, high academic achievement, and career transition of students with disabilities.
Quality Control - 15%
Assist the Assistant Director in tracking statistics and performing assessments of programs and activities for student advocacy and guidance. Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of the department's strategic plan and disability awareness strategic plan.
Other duties as assigned - 5%
This includes, but is not limited to, efforts that support broad divisional and institutional goals, such as at least 40 hours per year spent supporting divisional initiatives such as Move-in Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, and Career Expo.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a related field and specific training in working with persons who are hard of hearing and deaf.
Access Technology experience and Orientation Mobility experience.
Working knowledge of how to interpret audiograms.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Counseling, or directly related field.
Certification: Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
Experience with Access Technology Consultations and Case management
Working Knowledge of how to interpret audiograms.
Experience working in higher education.
Experience working with adolescents and/or adults with disabilities, particularly students who are hard of hearing and deaf.
Experience reading and interpreting disability-related documentation for students.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS
Ability and willingness to work some evening and weekend hours.
This position and/or position's responsibilities require work directly with minors. Finger printing and National Sex Offender Registry check required per FASOP HR-04.
As with all LSU employees, this position, due to its title and/or responsibilities, has an obligation to assist students in obtaining necessary services. Should a student appear to need or seek assistance with emotional, behavioral, or mental health-related issues, they should be referred to the appropriate service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students, or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee, outside of the rights contained in FERPA, ADA, and Section 504, should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
