Job description

Marshall Orthopaedics, an academic orthopaedic and sports medicine department affiliated with Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, is recruiting an athletic trainer to provide coverage to the Charleston Dirty Birds during the 2026 season. The Charleston Dirty Birds, an American professional baseball team, is based in Charleston, West Virginia. This position will be employed by Marshall Health.

Employment Period:ย The position will cover the duration of the 2026 Charleston Dirty Birds season (approximately mid-April through mid-September). An extended employment period before and after the baseball season may be available to support high school PRN coverage.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1) ย  ย Daily athletic training services for the Charleston Dirty Birds, an American professional baseball team based in Charleston, West Virginia.

2) ย  ย The Athletic Trainer will provide athletic training services at a schedule mutually agreed upon with the Charleston Dirty Birds. It is anticipated that this schedule will include all games (home and away) played by the Charleston Dirty Birds.

3) ย  ย The Athletic Trainer assesses, treats and develops rehabilitation and reconditioning strategies for athletes.

4) ย  ย The Athletic Trainer designs and implements injury prevention and education programs.

5) ย  ย The Athletic Trainer demonstrates proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.

6) ย  ย The Athletic Trainer carries out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team physician.

7) ย  ย The Athletic Trainer performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Education: Bachelors Degree or Masterโ€™s Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited educational program.

Qualifications:ย  Must be a Certified Athletic Trainer by the BOC and eligible for West Virginia licensure. CPR and First Aid Instructor certification preferred.
