TITLE:Middle School Athletic Coach
PURPOSE:Instruct athletes in team and individual fundamentals, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of positive values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current Illinois Teaching Certificate or ASEP Certification
  • Prior participation or coaching experience in sport
  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Exemplary Character and Ethics
  • All coaches must submit to a criminal background check ? Obtain CPR/AED Certification

RESPONSIBLE TO:
Athletic Director and Principal
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Administration
  • Demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship and good character within all aspects of the program.
  • Assist in Scheduling of practices.
  • Implements District Athletic Policy Guide.
  • Completes IESA forms / online entries.
  • Collects all forms, waivers, and participation fees from athletes.
  • Turns all forms and fees in to athletic director in a timely fashion.
  • Adheres to IESA Eligibility requirements.
  • Inputs, updates, and maintains athletic software program.
  • Supportive of the District and the program at all times.
  • Works collaboratively with other grade level coach within the sport.
  • Arrives prior to athletes and is prepared for all scheduled practices/games.
  • Assumes the position of other grade level sport coach if the situation is necessitated.

Communication
  • Conducts parent informational meeting at start of the season.
  • Meets with Athletic Director on a frequent basis.
  • Creates a mandatory emergency contact information sheet and shares with parents, Athletic Director, Building and Central Administration.
  • Ensures that all athletes, parents, and building staff have necessary season schedules.
  • Communicates with all parties when schedules necessitate a change.
  • Communicates with coaches at all levels.

Supervision
  • Attends all scheduled practices and games.

Board Approval 04/22/2014
  • Arrives prior to practice / game scheduled times.
  • Rides District transportation to and from all scheduled events.
  • Ensures all students are in custody of parent/guardian prior to leaving a scheduled event.
  • Secures the building for all Saturday and Holiday practice sessions. ? Adheres to IESA guidelines for injuries and concussions.

Sport Knowledge
  • Plans and prepares for all practices/games.
  • Has working knowledge of game management.
  • Defines expectations of player conduct, (academic and athletic). ? Maintains knowledge of new ideas and trends within the sport.

Inventory
  • Maintains care of all equipment within the sport.
  • Responsible for care of uniforms and collection of uniforms at completion of season.
  • Conducts an annual inventory of equipment and uniforms at completion of season.

EVALUATION
The position is evaluated annually by the principal with input from the athletic director using the categories listed in the job description. There is an expectation of an off-season commitment to the program.
MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Maintain emotional control under stress. Maintain positive attitude when dealing with customers. Frequent district and some statewide travel. Work with frequent interruptions, frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Possible exposure to hot or cold weather conditions.
Schedule B assignments are appointed annually.
