Director information

What does a director do?

Directors are high-level executives responsible for overseeing a department, division, or entire organization. They set strategic goals, develop policies, and ensure that their teams execute projects effectively to meet company objectives. Directors often collaborate with other senior leaders, manage budgets, and lead decision-making processes. Their leadership is crucial for driving growth, maintaining operational efficiency, and fostering a positive organizational culture.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Director, you need strategic leadership, business acumen, and a proven track record in management, often supported by an advanced degree such as an MBA. Familiarity with budgeting tools, project management software, and data analytics systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, decision-making, and team-building abilities help Directors inspire teams and drive organizational goals. These skills are crucial for setting vision, ensuring operational efficiency, and achieving sustained business success.

How does a director typically balance strategic planning with day-to-day operational oversight?

Directors are responsible for setting long-term strategies while ensuring the smooth execution of daily operations. They achieve this balance by delegating routine tasks to managers, regularly reviewing progress through meetings and reports, and adjusting plans based on organizational needs. Successful Directors maintain open communication with their teams, foster collaboration across departments, and stay adaptable to changes in business priorities. This dual focus allows Directors to drive both immediate results and sustainable growth.

Because this position is responsible for resident assessments, care planning, documentation, and MDS-related responsibilities, previous Skilled Nursing or Long-Term Care experience is strongly preferred.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Strong organizational and communication skills

• Creativity and enthusiasm for developing meaningful programs for residents

• The ability to lead, motivate, and work collaboratively with staff

• A genuine passion for improving the quality of life of seniors

If you have SNF/LTC Activity Aide experience but have never been an Activity Director, WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO APPLY. We are willing to train the right candidate on the Director-level responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily, weekly, and monthly resident activities

• Develop programming based on residents' abilities, interests, preferences, and individual care needs

• Complete and maintain required activity assessments and documentation

• Participate in the MDS and interdisciplinary care-planning process

• Develop individualized activity approaches and care plans

• Monitor resident participation and adjust programming based on residents' changing needs

• Coordinate group and one-on-one activities for residents with varying levels of ability

• Develop appropriate programming for residents with dementia and cognitive impairment

• Lead and support activity staff and volunteers

• Collaborate with Nursing, Social Services, Dietary, Therapy, and other departments

• Maintain activity calendars, participation records, and required documentation

• Coordinate special events, holiday programming, resident celebrations, and community involvement

• Ensure the activities program meets facility standards and applicable regulatory requirements

WHAT WE OFFER

• Salary of $40,000–$50,000 per year

• Full-time leadership opportunity

• Opportunity for an experienced SNF/LTC Activity Aide or Activities Assistant to advance into a Director position

• Training and support for the right candidate

• Collaborative and supportive team environment

• Opportunity to make a direct impact on residents' quality of life
