Job description

The Director of Ticket Sales & Data Strategy is responsible for leading ticket sales efforts and using data to drive strategic decisions. This role focuses on growing revenue through season, group, and premium ticket sales while improving retention and the overall fan experience. The position works closely with ticket operations, marketing, and leadership to ensure sales strategies are aligned with organizational goals.

This posting has an initial screening date of June 23, 2026 and each Tuesday thereafter until filled.

The University of Memphis is a leading, student-centered, urban public R1 research institution. Located in Memphis, Tennessee, on 1,160 acres. The University serves a population of nearly 20,000 students and 2,500 employees, including more than 1,000 full-time faculty members. The University offers bachelor's degrees in more than 230 areas of study, master's degrees in more than 50 subjects and doctoral degrees in 26 disciplines; supported an institutional record of more than $100 million in research awards for FY24; and has an operating budget of close to $500 million.

Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, sports management, or a related field and four (4) years of experience in ticket sales, CRM management, or sports business operations.
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  •  Experience managing or mentoring a sales team.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfortable working evenings and weekends as needed for events.

Must be able to comply with all Department, University, Board of Trustees, Athletic Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures.

Ticket Sales 

  • Lead and manage the strategy for season, group, and premium ticket sales.
  • Set goals and track the performance of the sales team.
  • Identify new revenue opportunities and develop outbound sales campaigns.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key accounts and high-value customers.
  • Oversee the execution of sales initiatives from planning through delivery.
  • Support event setup and ticket operations on game days.
  • Oversight of the ticket sales team to include, but not limited to, Coordinators, Ticket Sales and Revenue, students, temporary workers, and assigned game day workers.

Data Strategy 

  • Utilize ticketing, CRM, and engagement data to inform sales, retention, and marketing strategies. Monitor reports to track and report on key metrics, including sales, renewals, attendance trends, and revenue, to help identify opportunities for growth and operational improvement.
  • Conduct trend analysis and forecasting to support revenue projections, season planning, and customer retention initiatives. 
  • Segment audiences and personalize outreach to improve campaign performance. 
  • Collaborate with marketing and ticket operations to maintain clean and accurate data. 

Customer Relations

  • Oversight of the development and implementation of strategies to retain season ticket holders and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Oversight of the team that creates touchpoints and communication plans to engage fans and drive renewals.
  • Gather and analyze customer feedback to improve service and engagement. 

Leadership & Staff Management 

  • Provide oversight and guidance for the Coordinator, Ticket Sales & Revenue staff.
  • Establish individual and team performance goals aligned with organizational revenue, attendance, and customer engagement objectives.
  • Monitor productivity, sales activity, and service standards; provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance feedback to maximize effectiveness and professional growth.
  • Manage work assignments, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure efficient operations during peak sales periods, events, and campaigns.
