Job Description
AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Senior Structural Engineer to be based in Denver, Colorado or Salt Lake City, Utah office, to support mining projects and to help lead and build a team of structural engineers to support mining projects.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and have at least eight years of experience in the Structural Engineering field. Technical experience in structural design codes is also necessary. The candidate should be capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously and meeting project schedules. Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software such as AutoCAD, STAAD, RAM Elements, Revit, etc., is expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and prior experience in mining industry structural design would be advantageous.
Responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to):
  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.
  • Provides project leadership in the areas of structural engineering and design, investigations, analysis on multi-disciplinary mining projects.
  • Serve as lead structural engineer or discipline lead on mid- to large size projects.
  • Perform and oversee advanced structural analyses, including 2D/3D finite element modeling (FEA).
  • Coordinate and direct staff on designs, specifications, drawings, figures, reports and calculations on multi-discipline design efforts.
  • Work with existing and potential clients to provide structural engineering and design solutions on mining projects.
  • Develop project proposals and work with mining business leader to support and grow the Mining practice.
  • Provides direction and mentoring to technical staff in completing project tasks.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients.
  • Performs independent technical reviews of engineering reports and design and signs off on work.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering project, focusing on the structural designs of mining projects.
  • Provides advice and consultation to clients on engineering matters, including compliance with government laws and regulations.
  • Participate in site visits to assess existing structures and monitor construction progress.
  • Ensure compliance with local and national building codes and standards.
  • Utilize advanced structural analysis software and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and innovative structural engineering practices.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Registration as a Professional Structural Engineer (SE).
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License

Preferred Requirements:
  • 10+ years or more of relevant experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, or ability to acquire a PE in those states.
  • Experience in advanced structural analysis software such as STAAD and RAM Elements.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Revit and Advanced Steel.
  • Experience in finite element analysis and Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Experience with various building materials including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.
  • Understanding building codes, standards, and seismic design principles.
  • On-site field experience in commissioning and start-ups
  • Masters in structural engineering or related field of study
  • MSHA Miner training
