Job description

Ardurra is seeking a Structural Engineer Intern to join our team in our Fresno, CA office!

This position is ideal for students seeking to apply academic knowledge in a professional consulting environment. As an intern, you will support the design and analysis of building and infrastructure projects under the guidance of experienced engineers and project managers on meaningful projects that support municipalities and public agencies across the West Region. This role provides hands-on experience with structural calculations, drawings, and industry-standard software. The internship is designed to give you exposure to real-world engineering work, build your technical skills, enhance your drawing and communication skills, and help you explore a future career in structural engineering.

Primary Function

Under general supervision, the primary function of the structural engineering Intern is to assist in the preparation of structural designs, calculations, and construction documents. The intern will work closely with project engineers and project managers to support ongoing projects and ensure accuracy and efficiency in deliverables. This role emphasizes learning, technical development, and practical application of engineering principles. The intern is also expected to contribute to team discussions and maintain organized project documentation.

Primary Duties

  • Assists with preparing plan details and outlines
  • Assist in preparing structural calculations for steel, concrete, wood, and masonry systems
  • Support the development of construction drawings using CAD or BIM software
  • Utilized various engineering software tools, Microsoft Office applications, and design programs
  • Participate in field investigations, measurements, and site inspections; collect and process field data
  • Perform quantity take-offs and assist with cost estimates
  • Review project specifications and assist with code compliance checks
  • Organize and maintain project files, calculations, and documentation
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and provide miscellaneous technical assistance as needed
  • Provide general support to the engineering team on active and upcoming projects

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or holding a Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 0โ€“2 years of experience; internship experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and solid work ethic.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
  • Proficiency or familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, GIS, and/or structural modeling software is preferred.
