Job description

Description

We deliver our customers peace of mind every day by helping them protect what they value most. Our passion for placing the customer at the center of everything we do is driving a transformational shift at Liberty Mutual. Operating as a tech startup within a Fortune 100 company, we are leading a digital disruption that will redefine how people experience insurance.

At Liberty, you'll thrive in a hybrid setting that fosters in-person collaboration, innovation and growth. This approach optimizes both remote and in-person interactions, enabling you to connect and ideate with your team and deepen valuable relationships across the company, while still enjoying the flexibility of remote work for focused tasks and projects.

This role has a hybrid work schedule (2 days onsite) and we are considering candidates based in Portsmouth, NH, Boston, MA, Plano, TX, Indianapolis, IN, and Columbus, OH.

**This is a U.S. based role only**

Job Introduction:

The USRM Electronic Content Solutions (ECS) is looking for a Solutions Engineer to lead the technical vision for the Publishing API and Forms portfolio. ECS is the platform organization behind every document our customers touch: Capture, Document Management, eSignature, Publishing, AI/Enrich, and Interactive Communications, serving US Retail Markets end to end. Our vision is to be an industry-leading enterprise content solutions provider for everyone, everywhere, every time. We are looking for a Solution Engineer to own the technical vision for our Publishing API and Forms Development portfolio, the platform that generates, packages, and distributes documents for Claims, Policy (Personal and Small Commercial), Billing, and Finance across the business and geographic locations (APAC and US regions).
It's a build-and-retire role: you'll lead the technical strategy to converge Legacy Publishing (Documaker, on-prem) onto our cloud-native, open-source Pub API platform, a modern AWS stack in Java, Python, and LibreOffice, while simultaneously shaping the future of insurance forms development and bringing more clients onto PubAPI across the organization. Publishing sits at the center of the ECS ecosystem. It's the gateway that connects the rest of the portfolio together: eSignature, Nebula archiving, Interactive Communications, and Enrich all flow through Publishing on their way to the client. That makes this role isn't just about one platform, but about designing solutions that tie ECS's capabilities together.

  • Executive-visible strategy: ECS convergence and platform evolution are top USRM priorities with defined OKRs and leadership attention, so your technical decisions carry weight beyond the team
  • Real scale, real stakes: 90M+ annual transactions across 22+ clients, spanning declarations, endorsements, billing notices, and ID cards that customers see directly
  • Cross-portfolio connector: as the gateway into ECS, you'll help clients and internal teams stitch together document generation, distribution, signature, and archiving into cohesive, well-architected solutions
  • Technical breadth: cutting-edge cloud-native services alongside gnarly legacy retirement puzzles, giving you interesting problems to solve at both ends of the stack

If you want to sit at the intersection of hands-on engineering and enterprise architecture, writing specs, resolving the hardest cross-team problems, mentoring engineers, and shaping how Liberty Mutual modernizes one of its most customer-facing systems, this is that role.

Responsibilities

  • Turn What into How: Work as a member of the leadership team alongside product leaders and system architects to translate business strategies into technology solutions.
  • Execute a Vision: Lead the vision and execution to consolidate legacy technologies onto PubAPI and to continuously refine forms development excellence.
  • Lead & Mentor: Work across multiple teams in an agile environment to support and mentor developers in delivering their solutions and developing themselves.
  • Be Hands-on: Roll up your sleeves as you dissect and prepare complex features or assist teams with challenging issues.
  • Safeguard & Evangelize Best Practices: Consults on major architectural designs to ensure consistency, security, maintainability, and flexibility with respect to overall system, technical and product architectures within a domain or portfolio.
  • Build a Great Culture: As part of a broader leadership team, foster a high performing culture based on trust, honesty, and transparency.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years of Software engineering experience with a history of delivering enterprise level software solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary frameworks and emerging technologies.
  • Experience developing or architecting cloud-hosted, responsive web applications using Python, JAVA and AWS.
  • Strong background in code review.
  • A comprehensive understanding of agile environments
  • A strong background in business operations and strategies, including knowledge of global business, technology trends and the financial services industry.
  • Solid negotiation, facilitation, consensus building and influencing capabilities.
  • Ability to identify patterns and problems across teams and deliver effective solutions.
  • Openness and adaptability to respond to fast-moving circumstances.
  • A design thinking and test-driven development mindset.
