GAINSCO is seeking a Manager, Software Development to lead software development teams responsible for delivering high-quality technology solutions. This role provides leadership, technical guidance, and delivery accountability while fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, continuous improvement, and strong execution. The Manager, Software Development will balance hands-on technical oversight with people leadership, ensuring the team is aligned to business priorities, agile delivery practices, and long-term technology strategy.

What does a Manager, Software Development do at GAINSCO?

  • Lead agile software development teams through sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and delivery execution.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop software developers through regular feedback, goal setting, and professional development.
  • Provide technical guidance on solution design, code quality, architecture alignment, security standards, and development best practices.
  • Identify and remove blockers, resolve conflicts, and help teams stay focused on timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, executives, and IT leaders to communicate progress, risks, priorities, and outcomes.
  • Build a team culture focused on accountability, inclusion, collaboration, innovation, customer focus, and continuous improvement.

What is required?

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required

Certifications:

  • Project management certification, such as PMP, CSM, or SAFe, is preferred

Experience:

  • 7+ years of progressive software development experience required
  • 5+ years managing software developers required
  • Demonstrated success leading agile development teams and delivering business-critical applications
  • Experience promoting software development best practices
  • Insurance or financial services industry experience is preferred

Skills and abilities:

  • Strong understanding of Agile principles and delivery frameworks
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop technical teams
  • Strong technical acumen in software engineering practices
  • Ability to set priorities, establish performance standards, and make sound trade-offs around speed, quality, and risk
  • Excellent problem-solving, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
