What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a director at RIA, and why are they important?

Familiarity with compliance systems, financial reporting tools, and customer relationship management (CRM) platforms is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and cross-cultural collaboration skills help a Director stand out in this international setting. These qualifications and skills are vital to drive business growth, ensure regulatory compliance, and effectively lead diverse teams in the fast-paced remittance industry.

What are some common challenges faced by a director in a Remittance and International Affairs (RIA) role, and how can they be addressed?

A Director in Remittance and International Affairs often faces challenges such as navigating complex regulatory environments across multiple countries, ensuring compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) laws, and adapting to rapidly evolving financial technologies. Building strong relationships with global partners and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of local and international regulations are essential for success. Effective Directors foster a culture of compliance, encourage open communication within their teams, and leverage technology to streamline operations and enhance security.

This is a full-time role reporting to the Chief Investment Officer.

The ideal candidate will be a highly capable investment professional with a strong interest in supporting the needs of the investment team at a growing firm. The successful candidate will be self‑motivated, able to manage projects and priorities independently, and comfortable collaborating within a team‑oriented environment. The role offers broad exposure across the firm to both public and private market investments, with an initial emphasis on hedge funds and public markets.

This position ideally requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and offers the opportunity to grow in responsibility and scope over time. Exceptional candidates with shorter experience may also be considered.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead and, as appropriate support, investment due diligence across asset classes including equity, hedge funds, fixed income, private equity, and others.
  • Prepare analysis and materials for investment committee review and presentations.
  • Attend regular diligence meetings and calls with current and potential investment managers.
  • Assist with the portfolio construction, reporting, and ongoing management of investment strategies.
  • Support the preparation of internal and external investment communications, including presentations, commentaries, and investment reports.
  • Support responses to client‑related investment inquiries and reporting needs.
  • Represent the investment team in external meetings with clients and other constituents.

Required Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (finance preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of full-time investment experience at an RIA, MFO, endowment/foundation, or similar institution.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; comfort with learning analytical software systems such as Bloomberg, Addepar, FactSet and Morningstar Direct.
  • Strong analytical mindset with demonstrated investment judgment and a sustained interest in investments.
  • Ability to invest alongside clients, including in private equity and hedge fund allocations.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to manage projects independently.
  • Ability to collaborate and contribute effectively to a high‑performing team.
  • Ability to exude the True North core values.
  • Must consent to and have favorable credit report and background check.
  • Competitive bonus potential based on successful execution of firm goals and individual performance metrics
  • 15 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) for new employees; increases to 18 days after the second year and increases from there per a schedule
  • Telecommuting opportunities
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, and HSA with $2,000 annual employer contribution
