We are looking to hire a talented Purchasing Agent in our Indianapolis, IN office. The primary responsibilities of this position are to provide key purchasing support to all projects in the form of administering, coordinating and supervising assigned activities.Role Summary
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for supporting electrical construction projects through the coordination and execution of purchasing activities. This role works closely with Electrical Project Managers to ensure materials, equipment, and subcontracted services are procured in alignment with project estimates, schedules, and specifications. The Purchasing Agent helps maintain project efficiency by ensuring timely processing of purchase orders and subcontracts, accurate documentation, and effective communication with vendors and project teams.Key Responsibilities
  • Review all purchase orders and subcontract scopes and their relationship to project estimates, plans and specifications. Confirm with the Electrical PM and prepare documents accordingly.
  • Establish purchase order and subcontract priorities with the Electrical PM and prepare documents.
  • Negotiate purchase order and subcontract terms and conditions so as to protect the Company's interests and to ensure their completeness relative to the Project's plans and specifications.
  • Ensure all purchase orders, subcontracts, change orders and other related documents are signed and returned in a timely manner.
  • Ensure insurance certificates are provided as well as required performance and payment bonds.
  • Explore centralized purchasing opportunities to maximize the Company's ability to minimize costs and improve purchasing services.
  • Enter all required information into the Company's project's data tracking, estimating and cost systems.
  • As required, provide all necessary support and up-to-date information relative to the Company's estimating and job cost initiatives.
  • Request and evaluate all applicable vendor and subcontract data concerning prices, delivery dates, and other relevant project information. Prepare and maintain all necessary summaries for the Electrical Project Manager's review including appropriate recommendations.
  • Effectively communicate with all project-related personnel, the client, A/E, and any other individuals who have a direct effect on the project's performance from a purchasing standpoint.
  • Coordinate with Fleet Manager on all purchase orders related to vehicles or fleet, whether purchases or rental.
  • Coordinate with Logistics Manager on all purchase orders related to equipment and large tool purchases.
  • Assume any additional duties and responsibilities as delegated by Sargent Electrical Management.

  • 2+ years experience in an electrical construction purchasing/electrical distributor experience and product knowledge.
  • Commercial and/or industrial experience.
  • Low voltage and/or wireless experience.
