Reporting to the VP, Global Product Development, the Director, PMO provides hands-on leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustaining product development programs for Itron's Networks Solutions business line. This global, cross-functional leadership role is responsible for driving execution, governance, portfolio management, and operational excellence across complex hardware and software product initiatives. The Director PMO leads a team of Program Managers and partners closely with Engineering, Product Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and executive stakeholders to deliver innovative products from concept through manufacturing and sustainment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead a global portfolio of product development and sustaining programs, ensuring alignment with business priorities, customer needs, schedules, and budgets.

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of Program Managers, fostering an accountable, collaborative, and high-performing culture.

  • Own and maintain the business unit Plan of Record (POR), portfolio roadmap, and associated R&D budgets.

  • Drive execution through established product development processes, governance reviews, phase gates, change management, and executive reporting.

  • Establish and monitor portfolio KPIs, dashboards, and reporting to enable data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.

  • Partner with Product Management, Marketing, and Engineering leaders to prioritize investments, allocate resources, and achieve program objectives.

  • Identify, manage, and escalate risks, dependencies, and resource constraints to support successful outcomes.

  • Collaborate with PMO and business leaders to improve project management practices, tools, methodologies, and organizational efficiency.

  • Promote consistent product development processes and agile ways of working across global teams.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.

  • 10+ years of experience leading product, program, or project initiatives within technology-driven organizations.

  • 5+ years of experience managing Program or Project Managers, including leadership of globally distributed teams.

  • Strong expertise in product development lifecycle management from concept through commercialization and sustaining support.

  • Experience leading complex hardware and software development programs.

  • Proven ability to manage portfolios, budgets, resources, and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated excellence in program management, governance, risk management, and execution.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and executive stakeholder management skills.

  • Customer-centric, authentic, agile, innovative, and results-oriented leadership approach.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.

  • PMP certification.

  • Experience in IoT, IIoT, networking, communications, utilities, energy, or related industries.

  • Knowledge of Agile, Stage-Gate, or hybrid product development methodologies.

  • Track record of building high-performing PMO organizations and driving operational improvements across the product development lifecycle.

Travel: 15% international travel is expected
