The Opportunity with McKinstry
McKinstry is currently seeking a Sr. Director, New Program Development in the Offsite Manufacturing division. This role can sit in Dallas,TX, Austin,TX, Seattle, WA or Spokane, WA. This role will provide enterprise-level leadership in the creation, launch, and scaling of new programs within our Modular Products business, leveraging our strengths in mechanical cooling solutions to establish a robust modular program and product portfolio serving the mission-critical, industrial, and distributed energy resources (DER) markets. The Senior Director of New Program Development will translate strategic business vision into multi-year growth programs, driving innovation, market validation, product design, operating model optimization, and long-term commercialization. This role will lead cross-functional alignment, shape capital investment strategies, and ensure new programs are operationally and financially viable in support of the company's 2030 vision and beyond. Additional duties may include:
  • Strategic Program Leadership: Drive enterprise-wide strategy for new program development across Modular Products, guiding the evaluation, prioritization, and execution of high-impact opportunities. Oversee business case development, commercialization roadmaps, and governance of large-scale initiatives that position McKinstry for sustained market leadership.
  • Market and Portfolio Expansion: Lead the identification and development of new markets and product families (e.g., power systems for data centers, DER and microgrid solutions) by conducting rigorous market and competitive analyses. Direct multi-year expansion plans, balancing growth, profitability, and risk across regional and national opportunities.
  • Operating Model and Financial Design: Architect scalable program and product operating models, ensuring integration across supply chain, engineering, and operations. Develop financial frameworks, cost models, and capital strategies that enable disciplined growth and operational efficiency.
  • Workforce and Supply Chain Strategy: Champion labor and talent strategies to support multi-market expansion. Partner with workforce boards, training programs, and trade unions to build long-term labor pipelines, while assessing supplier readiness, logistics models, and regional incentives to optimize competitiveness.
  • Executive Collaboration and Governance: Serve as a strategic advisor to the Senior Vice President and executive leadership team, ensuring new programs align with enterprise strategy. Lead stage-gate reviews, communicate progress to senior leadership, and establish performance metrics to track value creation and risk mitigation.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
  • Experience: 18+ years of progressive leadership in program development, strategy, or operations within manufacturing or construction environments, with proven success in scaling industrialized or prefabricated solutions.
  • Skills: Advanced expertise in strategic growth planning, program/product development, commercialization strategy, DfMA, and integrated financial modeling. Strong executive presence, organizational design acumen, and ability to influence across all levels of the enterprise.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field required; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Attributes: Visionary and pragmatic leader with a record of delivering sustainable business growth through innovation, disciplined execution, and people development.

The pay range for this position is $189,100 - $287,400 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
