THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director of Engineering (Director) will lead a multi-site technical team to provide a range of critical engineering services. The Director is responsible for overseeing the entire process of bringing new products to market and sustaining products through their lifecycle. This role will develop, deploy, and manage the appropriate skills, expertise, processes, and resources to ensure Galvion's technical success, continued growth, and differentiation in the market.
Leading a diverse group of individuals in a global, fast-paced business unit to create a culture of high performance and accountability, the Director will have a passion for leading technical teams to deliver and sustain revolutionary capabilities for the military markets. The Director works closely with Customers, Product Managers, and Program Managers to produce cost effective technical solutions designed to seamlessly integrate with the human and survive in the most rugged environments.
SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
People:
  • Manage and motivate engineers across mechanical, electrical, systems, and software/firmware disciplines
  • Ensure functional engineers develop practical, manufacturable solutions that align with the overarching system architecture for programs planned to transition to production and demonstrations of proposed capabilities for technical
  • Assist the Program/Project Manager and the Chief Engineer in the planning and execution of technical projects, ensuring that resource allocation and team loading align with critical technical milestones.
  • Work collaboratively with Program Management, Product Management, Technical Director, and Chief Engineer to translate customer requirements into executable designs; guide multi-disciplinary engineering teams in executing the Chief Engineer's architectural roadmaps.
  • Develop and maintain a training plan to support long-term skills
  • Maintain a staffing forecast of technical skills mix & loading levels, adjust the organization to respond to and anticipate evolving business requirements.
  • Provide operational and technical execution leadership to the cross-functional engineering team, ensuring adherence to engineering best practices and the technical baselines.

Process
  • Develop processes, policies/procedures, and templates to formalize the product development and transition to production process including upfront system trades analysis and design
  • Guide planning and analysis and be responsible for the traceability of customer requirements and system design.
  • Provide configuration-controlled solutions and test conformance of configuration(s) to
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Engineer to operationalize the technical strategy and product roadmap; translate Internal Research and Development (IRAD) plans into resourced execution schedules.
  • Responsible for engineering hours/bids and the final operational approval of technical proposals, utilizing technical solutions.
  • Implement design to unit production cost (DTUPC) and design for manufacturing (DFM) methodologies as well as other best practices as required to execute projects and programs

Performance
  • Accountable for the on-time and on-budget operational execution of development projects.
  • Continually improve the engineering product development and new product introduction processes
  • Actively participate in design reviews to ensure operational viability and process compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with other business units and shared services.
  • Create a culture of speed and accountability.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Ten or more years of progressive engineering experience, including several years in senior management or leadership roles.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field is required. MBA or Advanced Engineering Leadership education is a plus.
  • Proven track record of building teams, driving continuous improvement, and managing managers.
  • Deep understanding of electrical, software, mechanical and/or industrial design, allowing for credible technical oversight.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and executives.
  • Demonstrable business acumen
  • Flexibility to lead and manage through ambiguity and change.
  • Demonstrated ability to take calculated risks and lead a diverse organization in a highly collaborative matrix environment.
  • Experience with Agile execution, a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Office based environment.
  • Travel between Galvion facilities will be required as well as occasional travel to customers.
