Job description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Shuttle Extrusion Technology Manager is responsible for new product development and operation equipment effectiveness (OEE) for the Shuttle Extrusion Blow Molding technologies. The role is a business partner with operations and sales assessing new business opportunities from the quoting phase throughout the product life cycle. This role is responsible for Silgan being the best operator of Shuttle Extrusion Blow Molding technologies in the markets we serve.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for the supervision of Product Development Engineers (2-5) and Process Engineers (1-3) executing New Product Development (NPD) projects for Shuttle Extrusion Blow Molding platforms
  • Responsible for assignment of NPD projects to Product Development Engineers (PDE's) and Process Engineers. Providing technical oversight for key project phases (design, prototype, commissioning, and qualification)
  • Responsible for training and auditing PDE's for adherence to NPD project execution procedures and systems. Run the bi-weekly Shuttle plant project update calls. Present our Shuttle capabilities at our Bottle School for our customers.
  • Continuous improvement of NPD procedures
  • Support Pricing team with timely accurate information for quotation development
  • Work with Director Engineering Technology & Development on investigating new platforms and technology improvements for existing platforms
  • Supporting Sales and Marketing by promoting Silgan capabilities to existing or potential new customers
  • Active management participant promoting best practices for plant efficiency, quality, and safety
  • Responsible for improving OEE targets for the Extrusion Blow Molding Shuttle technology
  • Responsible for executing programs to assess the talent level of individuals operating the technology in our production facilities and the development plans to improve the skill levels

EDUCATION:
Required:
  • Undergraduate degree (minimum) in engineering, science, plastics engineering, or related field experience greater than 7 years

Preferred:
  • Formal training in Project Management, Plastic Processing and/or Operations Excellence (or DFSS)
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis tools

EXPERIENCE:
Required:
  • 7 year or greater track record of successful management of New Product Development projects for markets served by Silgan Plastics

Preferred:
  • Track record of successful management experience of technical personnel involved in new product development for similar products to Silgan
  • In addition to above prior experience in operations and/or quality assurance in plastics containers industry
  • Demonstrated plastics processing and material knowledge for Extrusion Blow Molding related platforms

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills
