Job description

ImpactA a Director of Engineering for Shipt's Developer and Technology Operations Enablement organization, your product is the engineering ecosystem itself. You will sit at the intersection of Engineering Leadership, Product Management, and Operational Excellence to build a world-class Internal Developer Platform (IDP) and incident and disaster recovery programs.
Your mission is to reduce cognitive load for our feature teams, defining the Golden Path that allows engineers to move from idea to production reliably, efficiently, and securely with minimal friction. You will lead the charge in evolving our SRE, DevOps, and FinOps practices into an era of AI-driven automation and agentic workflows.
As a Director of Engineering, you will lead multiple teams of engineers building, testing, deploying, maintaining, and operating technical solutions that are utilized by our internal developers, business teams and or external users. You will manage, mentor, and develop engineers while overseeing technical design, implementation, and operation of these solutions. You will aid in project coordination, risk management, and cross-team collaboration in a Technology organization.
What You'll Need to Be Successful
  • Bachelor's or more advanced degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related discipline; or equivalent experience

  • Strong technical background with deep knowledge of software development methodologies, architectures, and technologies. Fundamental understanding of a given technical domain.

  • Technical Depth: Deep expertise in SRE, DevOps, Cloud Architecture, CI/CD, and IaC principles.

  • Operational Expertise: Proven mastery in designing and leading enterprise-level strategies for Incident Management, Disaster Recovery (DR), and Performance/Load Testing platforms. Experience championing comprehensive SRE practices across all engineering teams.

  • Experience in AI & Agentic implementation across DevOps, SRE, FinOps, DR, and incident management disciplines driving non-linear improvements of key results, Technology Product Management: Experience strategizing and evangelizing product roadmaps, while also being ultimately accountable for the delivery of it.

  • 7+ years of software development experience, preferably building customer-facing products and services

  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams or 1+ year of leading leaders

  • Must have experience designing and delivering distributed, highly available, large scale, high performing applications in an agile environment

Pay Range: $168,000 - $250,000
