Job description

Job Title: High School/Young Adults Director/Pastor

We are passionate about using our talents for God's purposes and that is why we've dedicated our careers to a ministry, not just a job title. We have the privilege of leading people to become fully devoted followers of Christ.

Position Summary: The High School Director/Pastor will primarily oversee and lead the High School Ministry of Journey Christian Church while also building and leading a growing Young Adult Ministry for ages 18 to 29. This leader will create environments where students and young adults can encounter Jesus, build authentic community, grow spiritually, and take meaningful next steps in their faith. The High School Ministry is the primary focus of this role. The Young Adult Ministry is an important secondary focus that will require vision, leadership, and intentional growth.

Job Classification: Full-Time Salary (Exempt)

Reports to: Executive Pastor

Primary Responsibilities:


1. High School Ministry Leadership (Primary Focus)

  • Lead all aspects of High School Ministry programming, discipleship, leadership development, volunteer culture, and student engagement
  • Plan and oversee Wednesday night High School Ministry gatherings, small groups, special events, retreats, camps, and outreach opportunities
  • Recruit, train, develop, and care for high school volunteers and leaders
  • Create a healthy and engaging ministry culture that helps students grow spiritually and relationally
  • Build strong relationships with students and parents
  • Develop intentional discipleship strategies that help students take spiritual next steps
  • Provide teaching and leadership during weekly services, camps, retreats, and student events
  • Align all efforts with the vision and strategy of Journey Christian Church

2. Young Adult Ministry Leadership

  • Lead and grow the Young Adult Ministry for ages 18 to 29
  • Oversee and lead the Tuesday night young adult gathering
  • Build a healthy and welcoming ministry culture for young adults
  • Develop leadership teams, small groups, discipleship opportunities, and community engagement strategies
  • Create environments where young adults can connect, belong, and grow spiritually

3. Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Work closely with the Middle School Director to create alignment across Student Ministry
  • Collaborate on student events, retreats, camps, discipleship plans, volunteer development, and ministry strategy
  • Support church wide Next Gen initiatives and events
  • Participate in staff meetings and planning environments
  • Maintain strong communication and teamwork with staff and volunteers

Expectations

  • Full time ministry position
  • Regular weekend and evening responsibilities required
  • Wednesday evening leadership required for High School Ministry
  • Tuesday evening leadership required for Young Adult Ministry gatherings
  • Participation in retreats, camps, conferences, and church wide events expected

Qualifications

  • Strong and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Passion for students, young adults, discipleship, and leadership development
  • Strong communicator and relational leader
  • Ability to recruit, lead, and develop volunteers and young leaders
  • Organized, dependable, self-motivated, and team oriented
  • Experience leading in student ministry, young adult ministry, or a related ministry environment preferred
  • Ability to lead through change, growth, and ministry development
