Position Title: Pastor, Church Online
Functional Ministry Area(s): Pastorel Connecting, and Spiritual Formation
Reports To: Executive Pastor
FSLA Classification: Part Time Salary
Salary Range: $35,000 - $45,000 a year
Supervises: No direct reports - collaboration across ministries & Volunteer teams
Position Schedule: Select hours Monday-Thursday, full day on Sundays
OVERVIEW
The Pastor of the Online audience is responsible for leading and developing the church's online ministry, creating meaningful engagement for those who participate digitally. This role focuses on fostering community, spiritual growth, and pathways to deeper connection-whether online or in person-by actively pastoring individuals through digital platforms and managing online community groups.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Online Service Experience
  • Oversee the live online worship experience (chat, hosts, engagement flow)
  • Actively engage with attendees during services via chat (prayer, encouragement, conversation)
  • Recruit, train, and schedule online hosts and moderators
  • Ensure a welcoming, responsive, and spiritually meaningful digital environment

Digital Pastoral Care
  • Provide pastoral care through digital channels (chat, email, DMs, video calls)
  • Respond to prayer requests and follow up with individuals
  • Identify and shepherd regular online attendees
  • Develop systems for tracking engagement and spiritual next steps

Community Building
  • Create and manage online small groups or digital community gatherings
  • Help attendees move from anonymous viewers to connected participants
  • Foster relationships and belonging among online attendees
  • Encourage integration into in-person gatherings when appropriate

Outreach & Growth
  • Partner with communications/marketing teams to promote online services
  • Develop strategies to reach new digital audiences
  • Monitor engagement analytics and recommend improvements
  • Stay informed on trends in digital ministry and online engagement

Integration with Church Life
  • Align online ministry with overall church vision and teaching
  • Collaborate with pastoral staff and ministry leaders
  • Help create clear next steps (salvation, baptism, groups, serving)

  • Strong, growing personal faith and alignment with church doctrine and values
  • Pastoral heart with demonstrated relational and communication skills
  • Experience in ministry, digital engagement, or online community building
  • Comfort with technology, livestream platforms, and social media tools
  • Ability to lead volunteers and build teams
  • Strong written communication (especially conversational tone for chat)

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Exceptional communication skills. Engaging, theologically grounded, and culturally connected.
  • Strong exegetical and hermeneutical skills
  • Ability to give and receive honest feedback in a collaborative team environment
  • Coaching instincts: able to identify and develop emerging communicators
  • Strong writing skills for manuscript development, series planning, and curriculum input

Required Licenses or Certifications:
  • Ordination required or willing to pursuing ordination
