About the Opportunity

Our client is a leading independent power producer (IPP) focused on developing, owning, and operating utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects across the United States. Backed by one of the world's largest renewable infrastructure investors, the company has built a rapidly growing development pipeline exceeding 12 GW and continues to expand its operating portfolio.

With multiple projects already online, several currently under construction, and more than 1 GW advancing through pre-construction, this is an opportunity to join an organization entering an exciting phase of long-term growth and asset ownership.

Position Overview

This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence across a growing portfolio of utility-scale solar and battery storage assets. The Director of Operations will oversee portfolio performance, safety, reliability, and value optimization while serving as the primary operational leader for executive leadership, investors, partners, and third-party service providers.

This individual will own the full operational lifecycle of renewable assets, from construction turnover and commissioning through long-term operations, while helping establish best practices and scalable operational processes across the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Serve as the operational leader for the company's renewable asset portfolio.
  • Provide executive leadership with data-driven reporting on portfolio performance, operational risks, and optimization opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with investors, project partners, and third-party service providers.

Portfolio Performance

  • Own operational performance across utility-scale solar and BESS assets.
  • Drive improvements in availability, reliability, generation performance, and overall asset value.
  • Lead root cause investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented across the portfolio.

O&M & Vendor Management

  • Oversee third-party O&M providers and hold vendors accountable through KPIs, SLAs, and performance metrics.
  • Manage site repairs, warranty claims, and corrective maintenance activities outside standard O&M agreements.
  • Standardize operational processes and maintenance programs across all operating assets.

Construction-to-Operations Transition

  • Lead the onboarding of newly constructed assets into the operating fleet.
  • Partner with Construction and EPC teams throughout commissioning, punch list completion, documentation review, warranty tracking, and care, custody, and control (CCC).
  • Approve operational readiness and final transition from construction into long-term operations.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with Asset Management, Reliability Engineering, SCADA/OT, HSE, Construction, and Engineering teams to maximize portfolio performance.
  • Align operational execution with commercial objectives while ensuring long-term reliability and asset optimization.

Safety & Continuous Improvement

  • Champion a proactive safety culture across internal teams and third-party contractors.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational excellence, reliability, and process standardization.

Preferred Background

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 10+ years of experience in renewable energy, power generation, or infrastructure operations.
  • Direct experience managing utility-scale solar and/or battery energy storage portfolios.
  • Strong experience overseeing third-party O&M providers and vendor performance.
  • A proven track record managing operational performance across multi-site renewable portfolios.
  • Experience leading construction-to-operations transitions, including commissioning, warranty management, and operational readiness.
  • Knowledge of ISO/RTO markets such as ERCOT, PJM, or MISO.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, reliability engineering, and performance analytics.
  • Strong executive communication skills with experience presenting to senior leadership, investors, and external stakeholders.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a strong focus on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary plus annual bonus.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match.
