Job description

Our Global Medical Products & Distribution business segment is currently looking for a Director of Warehouse Operations (DO) to lead and support the day-to-day operations for our Hammond Distribution Center located outside New Orleans, Louisiana. This leader will have financial and operational responsibility for a 210,000 square foot Distribution Center. This Distribution Center services hospitals and surgery centers in the Southern Gulf area and lower Alabama. The successful candidate will have direct/indirect responsibility for over 50 Distribution employees. Inbound and Outbound volume out of the Hammond facility is more than 900K picks and puts annually. The DO will, have oversight and dotted-line responsibility for the Penske-managed private fleet, which totals 1 manager, and 10 drivers, along with associated equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership: Directs daily activities including receiving, warehousing, inventory control, and shipping to maximize space and efficiency.
  • Strategic Planning: Develops and implements warehouse strategies, including continues improvement, safety, workflow design, and technology adoption to improve productivity.
  • Team Development: Recruits, trains, manages, and mentors warehouse managers, supervisors, and staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability & trust.
  • Safety, Quality & Compliance: Optimize efficiency, safety, and quality. Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment. Ensure employees have access to safe, reliable, and efficient equipment to perform distribution functions; implement programs, policies, and strategies to improve productivity and optimize space utilization.
  • Financial Management: Owns site P&L. Develops operating budgets, manages labor costs, controls expenses, and prepares reports for senior management.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate performance and implement improvements.
  • Continuous Improvement Culture: Leading, mentoring, and developing warehouse teams to adopt a mindset of continuous improvement and safety. Continuously identify and implement opportunities to improve facility operations through established standards, innovation, and creative problemsolving while effectively managing multiple competing priorities.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Acts as a primary point of contact for the customer ensuring high-level responsiveness and building trust. Ensures all logistics activities, such as packaging or special project handling, meet or exceed contractual obligations. Beyond managing complaints, leaders must nurture key customer relationships, acting as the customer's advocate internally and fostering long-term trust.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Bridge gaps between departments (e.g., sales, marketing, product) to ensure consistent, efficient execution of projects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, including ability to manage diverse personalities/skill sets in a changing environment. Experienced site leader who enjoys being visible & engaged. Strong ability to lead, motivate, develop, and manage teams, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Exhibits customer focus.
  • Hands-on experience overseeing daily warehouse operations including inventory control, order fulfillment, shipping/receiving, and labor planning.
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations, safety programs, quality and compliance standards.
  • Experience with budgeting, cost control, and managing P&L preferred. Excellent analytical, decision-making, and strategic planning skills to resolve complex issues and improve processes.
  • Communication: Presentation skills, verbal and written communication, including active listening, for onsite briefings and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to lead change, drive continuous improvement, and implement process efficiencies (Lean, Six Sigma, or similar).
  • Experience with warehouse automation and material handling systems preferred.
  • Critical Thinking & Decision-Making: Ability to make sound, objective decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Organization: Ability to manage workflows, schedules, and resource allocation.

Anticipated pay range: $105,600 - $178,650
