Senior Manager, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting

KBR is seeking a Senior Manager, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting in Houston, TX to lead the company's external reporting and technical accounting functions. Reporting to the Director of SEC Reporting, this role oversees the preparation and review of SEC filings, provides leadership on complex accounting matters, and drives process improvements across the finance organization.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with SEC regulations and U.S. GAAP while partnering cross-functionally to support business initiatives and maintain a strong, effective control environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • SEC Reporting:
    • Lead the end-to-end preparation, review, and filing of all SEC reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and earnings releases, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with SEC regulations and U.S. GAAP.
    • Oversee the development and review of financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, disclosure checklists, and all supporting documentation, including tie-outs and XBRL tagging through Workiva and Wdata.
    • Coordinate closely with Business Units, FP&A, Tax, Investor Relations, and other stakeholders to gather required inputs and produce high-quality disclosures.
    • Support the earnings release process, including review of press releases and investor presentations, and partner with external auditors to manage quarterly reviews and annual audits, aligning on accounting positions and disclosures impacting financial reporting.
  • Technical Accounting:
    • Lead the evaluation and resolution of complex and non-routine accounting matters by performing technical research, assessing alternatives, and driving alignment with senior leadership, external auditors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
    • Develop and document accounting positions through formal technical memos, while partnering with the SOX team to design and implement effective controls.
    • Serve as the owner of the accounting policy manual, ensuring timely updates for new pronouncements and business changes, and communicate impacts across the organization.
    • Monitor FASB and SEC developments, assess their impact, and lead implementation efforts to ensure compliance.
    • Act as a subject matter expert to finance leadership and business units, providing guidance on complex transactions and supporting the operationalization and implementation of accounting solutions, along with other special projects as needed.

Basic Qualifications
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent certification required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including strong experience in SEC reporting and technical accounting
  • Experience with SOX compliance and internal control environments

Leadership & Core Skills:
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex accounting topics clearly
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to drive initiatives to completion
  • Demonstrated leadership, ownership, and accountability

Preferred Qualifications
  • Big Four public accounting experience
  • Experience with complex project-based or percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Experience with financial systems and reporting tools such as Workiva, Oracle FCCS, and XBRL
