Position Synopsis
Conexus large Insurance Carrier client based out of Portland is expanding their team and is seeking an accounting leader to step into the Director of Accounting role. This high-visibility leadership position oversees global accounting, managing a team of managers and a global team of onshore and offshore staff. Reporting directly to the SVP of Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting, the ideal candidate will serve as a strategic operational accounting partner, driving internal controls, supporting rapid M&A integration, navigating complex revenue recognition under ASC 606, and leading cutting-edge AI and automation initiatives across modern systems.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide direct leadership and oversight for onshore and offshore teams managing a 4-4-5 quarter end accounting cycle.
  • Direct and develop a team structure consisting of 2 managers, and 25 indirects including an offshore team in Prague and the Philippines.
  • Own the accuracy, completeness, and financial statement integrity of General Ledger accounts arising from operational processes, including trust cash, operating cash, premium receivables, carrier payables, and commission revenue.
  • Strengthen, design, and implement robust internal accounting controls across operational workflows to prepare the organization for IPO readiness.
  • Partner directly with newly acquired business partners and agency executives to lead smooth operational accounting integration and champion standardized processes.
  • Spearhead technology and AI transformation initiatives, leveraging tools Tableau ChatGTP, and custom platform integrations to automate reporting and workflows.
  • Execute comprehensive process mapping and flowcharting of end-to-end operational accounting functions to eliminate manual inefficiencies.
  • Coordinate external audit support and serve as a key point of contact for Big 4 audit firm partners during quarterly and annual audits.
  • Collaborate closely with the Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting teams on complex monthly flux analysis, GAAP, and revenue recognition.
  • Guide and educate operational accounting staff on overall general ledger impact to build financial acumen across all team tiers.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Producers, Account Managers, and executive management to deliver concise, solution-oriented written and verbal communications.
  • Lead cross-functional automation and operational efficiency initiatives in close coordination with the finance leadership team.

Required Experience
  • 2+ years of remote experience or managing teams offshore
  • Proven track record of operational accounting leadership, including managing system upgrades, process improvements, or cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Strong verbal and written executive communication skills with the ability to summarize complex accounting solutions concisely.
  • Tech-forward mindset with high comfort navigating multi-ERP environments and data transformation tools.
  • Exposure to fast-paced, high-growth, M&A-heavy corporate environments undergoing process integration.
