Director of Engineering  |   Norfolk, NE   

Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities: 

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and develop the company’s engineering organization, including software engineers, data engineers, and infrastructure/platform engineers.
  • Establish strong engineering standards for system design, code quality, testing, and deployment.
  • Build a culture that values both operational stability and thoughtful innovation.
  • Mentor engineers and help develop future technical leaders.

Technical Architecture & System Design

  • Own the overall technical architecture of the company’s technology ecosystem.
  • Ensure systems are designed for reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Guide architecture decisions across ERP systems, integrations, data platforms, and customer-facing applications.
  • Evaluate new technologies and architectural patterns when appropriate.

ERP & Platform Modernization

  • Lead the technical strategy for modernization of the company’s ERP and core operational systems.
  • Evaluate build vs. buy decisions and technology platform options.
  • Ensure new platforms integrate cleanly with existing systems and data models.
  • Guide engineering teams through complex system migrations and transitions.

Delivery & Execution

  • Work closely with Product Managers to ensure engineering resources are focused on the highestvalue initiatives.
  • Ensure development work is well-scoped, well-estimated, and delivered on schedule.
  • Implement engineering processes that improve predictability, quality, and delivery speed.
  • Oversee development pipelines, release management, and operational readiness.

Platform Reliability & Infrastructure

  • Ensure the reliability and performance of core infrastructure including servers, networking, cloud environments, and system integrations.
  • Establish monitoring, incident management, and operational response processes.
  • Ensure strong cybersecurity practices and system resiliency.

CrossFunctional Collaboration

  • Partner with the Director of Technology to align engineering priorities with business needs.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to ensure technology solutions support operational goals.
  • Work closely with product management to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Communicate technical tradeoffs and system constraints clearly to nontechnical stakeholders.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong background in software engineering or systems architecture.
  • Experience leading engineering teams in complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience working with enterprise systems such as ERP platforms and system integrations.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, system design, and scalable infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to balance reliability and innovation in technology organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to business leaders.
