The Role:

As our Head of Environmental Health and Safety for the US, you will be a strong and confident leader who can truly take ownership of this amazing opportunity within our US operations. You will bring together our vision of being the best in the business and lead the way with robust governance in delivering progressive, human-centric Environment, Health & Safety systems that enable our world-class operations.

Reporting to the SVP Global Head of EHS (outside of the US), this role has overall responsibility for ensuring an effective and progressive Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy for all US operations on both the West and East Coasts.

In addition, this role sits on the global EHS Leadership Team.

What You'll Do:

  • Adopt a contemporary and progressive EHS strategy for the US.
  • Lead the EHS agenda across US operations by building meaningful collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • As a member of the Global Leadership Team, co-create the Global EHS Vision & Plan and cascade it throughout the US operations.
  • Empower, enable, and lead the US EHS team, ensuring their talent is engaged through tangible objectives aligned with business needs.
  • Drive US improvements with a focus on learning.
  • Provide expertise and leadership in the development and deployment of a streamlined EHS Management System.
  • Provide a framework where those performing operations are actively involved in the design of risk controls
  • Oversee specific EHS programs tailored to the context of present risks (e.g., chemical safety, manufacturing, contractor control, emergency response, environmental protection, etc.).
  • Maintain and sustain the EHS risk management system to assess where resilient systems exist and where fragile ones require improvement.
  • Oversee an event management and investigation process and a culture that drives learning from the conditions that influenced unwanted outcomes.
  • Oversee the delivery of Evotec's strategy for industrial hygiene and occupational health surveillance.
  • Identify, plan, recommend, and execute safety and environmental programs in alignment with the global EHS strategy.
  • Oversee compliance with US legislation and specific permits as appropriate. Ensure that the country legal register for EHS legislation is maintained, along with the H&S Risk Register and the Environmental Impacts and Aspects Register, including identification of critical controls and assessment of their effectiveness, with findings shared with internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement assurance programs, including deep dives, audits, and inspections, to ensure engagement, compliance, and senior management commitment.
  • Advise accountable stakeholders.
  • Ensure meaningful metrics and reporting are established to support stakeholder decision-making.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership and line management experience in US Environment, Health, and Safety is essential.
  • Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical (GMP), manufacturing or engineering environments advantageous.
  • Experience in a global, matrixed EHS team is advantageous.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) required.
  • Knowledge of human factors in Health & Safety (e.g., HOP, Safety II, New View) is advantageous.

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $154,000-$190,000; Base salary offered may vary depending on individual's skills, experience and competitive market value. Additional total rewards include discretionary annual bonus, comprehensive benefits to include Medical, Dental and Vision, short-term and long-term disability, company paid basic life insurance, 401k company match, flexible work, generous paid time off and paid holiday, wellness and transportation benefits.
