Description

The Director of Educational Talent Search (ETS) is responsible for all facets of designing, implementing, administering, supervising, and evaluating the Federal Trio Talent Search grant along with the program activities and objectives. The program provides services to 6-12 grade students from public schools within the Clare-Gladwin RESD and Coleman Community Schools who are low income and/or first-generation college students. Throughout the program, students have the opportunity to learn valuable life-skills, try new experiences, and prepare for postsecondary education. The program provides students with the resources they need to succeed, feel empowered, and prepare for their future.
Examples of Duties
  1. Provides day-to-day management and oversight of the ETS program, activities, and staff.
  2. Coordinates and provides services to students, including academic and career advising, special events, activities, and workshops, college prep (financial aid support, college applications, testing), and providing various supports for students and families.
  3. Identifies, recruits, and selects eligible participants. Determines and documents student eligibility, makes decisions about student enrollment, and maintains required ETS participant levels.
  4. With ETS staff, develops, implements, and monitors a comprehensive student assessment process leading to ETS Action Plans for all program students.
  5. Implements student tracking systems, directs the collection of data, and coordinates use of data to improve the program.
  6. Ensures the program operates in full compliance with U.S. Department of Education regulations and the policies and procedures of Mid and the State of Michigan.
  7. Establishes and works with ETS Advisory Boards.
  8. Communicates with stakeholders, schools, and community organizations to build partnerships.
  9. Develops and maintains accurate program budgets, administers departmental budget, and assures expenditures are within the approved budget.
  10. Serves as a liaison with the Federal Trio Program Office and attends all required federal department and training meetings/workshops and debriefs Mid personnel regarding content.
  11. Prepares and presents periodic evaluative reports on the department's performance; prepares departmental documents and reports as required.
  12. Plans and leads departmental meetings. Attends and/or facilitates various internal committee/task force meetings as assigned; performs related tasks as required.
  13. Ensures that the values of equity and inclusion are present in all student services efforts to best support student success and retention.
  14. Oversees staff and work study students, providing feedback, support, and regular performance reviews.
  15. Serves on shared governance committees and other designated ad hoc, college standing committees, and professional organizations
  16. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  17. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act),a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College's Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licensure:
  • Bachelor's degree in K-12 education, K-12 counseling, or a closely related field required.
Experience:
  • Minimum of three years of experience in administration and staff supervision preferred.
  • Experience working with economically disadvantaged students in a K-12 setting preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with techniques and opportunities for overcoming barriers faced by economically disadvantaged youth preferred.
  • Prior experience in grant or project management preferred.
  • Experience in teaching, advising and/or curriculum development in grades 6-12 preferred.
