Job Description for BANQUET SERVER

Job Identification:

Position Summary:

Somerby Golf Club is dedicated to hiring outstanding individuals who share our passion for hospitality and excellence. Our staff and their commitment to members and guest satisfaction are what set us apart. The Banquet Server plays a vital role in delivering a seamless and memorable experience during all club banquet and event functions. Member and guest satisfaction is our top priority, and maintaining the highest appearance and service standards throughout every event is essential to this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Event Setup & Preparation
  • Perform all assigned banquet setup tasks including laying linens, setting tables, placing centerpieces, staging glassware, flatware, and china according to the event diagram and service standards.
  • Review event order sheets and banquet diagrams prior to each event to ensure full understanding of room layout, service style, and timing.
  • Set up buffet stations, food displays, and service areas in accordance with the established event plan.
  • Ensure all assigned areas are fully prepared, stocked, and guest-ready prior to the start of each event.
  • Communicate any setup discrepancies or missing items to the Floor Captain or manager on duty in advance of guest arrival.
Guest Service & Food & Beverage Delivery
  • Deliver exceptional, attentive service to all banquet guests throughout the event, anticipating needs and responding promptly to requests.
  • Serve food and beverages courteously and efficiently in accordance with the established service sequence and club standards.
  • Maintain awareness of dietary restrictions, allergies, and special requests, communicating them clearly to the culinary team and Floor Captain.
  • Refill waterand beverages as needed throughout the event to ensure a consistent and seamless guest experience.
  • Advise the manager or Floor Captain of any member or guest complaint as soon as it occurs, ensuring swift and appropriate resolution.
  • Interact with guests in a warm, professional, and engaging manner consistent with the Somerby standard of unreasonable hospitality.
Responsible Alcohol Service
  • Consistently follow all applicable state and local laws and club policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages.
  • Practice responsible alcohol service at all times, monitoring guest consumption and communicating concerns to the Floor Captain or manager on duty.
  • Verify guest age in accordance with club policy and applicable law when serving alcoholic beverages.
Cleanliness & Closing Responsibilities
  • Clean all assigned work areas in the kitchen and banquet spaces throughout and following each event, including the front kitchen line, back storage area, and service stations.
  • Assist in closing functions including removing linens, busing glassware, dishes, and silverware, and in some cases resetting the room for the next event.
  • Ensure all banquet areas are left clean, organized, and properly broken down following each event.
  • Return all equipment, linens, and supplies to their designated storage areas at the conclusion of each event.
Standards & General Responsibilities
  • Consistently follow all sanitation-related requirements, including those related to personal hygiene and appearance standards.
  • Be knowledgeable and comply, always, with the club's standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with the club's scheduling requirements, which will vary based on event needs.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the proper uniform and nametag while on duty.
  • Report any safety concerns, accidents, or maintenance issues to the Floor Captain or manager on duty immediately.
  • Complete other appropriate assignments as directed by the Director of Event Sales, Event Manger, or Floor Captain.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Genuine passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional guest experience.
  • Friendly, professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-volume event environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow event diagrams, service sequences, and instructions accurately.
  • Ability to remain composed and professional under pressure.
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage service standards is preferred.
  • High internal standards of cleanliness, appearance, and guest service.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This is not a supervisory position. The Banquet Server reports to the Director of Event Sales, Assistant Director of Event Sales, and the Banquet Floor Captain on duty.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed indoors in a fast-paced banquet and event environment. The position requires the ability to stand and move quickly for extended periods, bend, stoop, and reach, and safely lift and carry items up to 20 pounds. Exposure to varying noise levels during events is expected. Schedule varies and includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as event schedules dictate.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in banquet service, food and beverage, or a hospitality role preferred but not required.
  • Flexible schedule; must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to safely lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in a high-volume environment.

Compensation:

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Hourly wage plus gratuities.
