KIPP Indy Public Schools (KIPP Indy) was founded in 2004 with one class of fifth-grade students and has grown to serve 1,400 students across three schools. Of the students that attend KIPP Indy, 93% qualify for free and reduced lunch, 95% are African American or LatinX, 16% receive special education services, and 15% are designated as Multilingual Learners. Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of School Operations (DSO) will serve as a critical member of the KIPP Indy school-based leadership team and the region-wide campus operations team.  The DSO will lead the implementation of school-specific and region-wide systems, working in close collaboration with and reporting directly to the School Leader.  The KIPP Indy operations team aims to ensure that teachers and leaders can focus as much attention as possible on instruction. To make that possible, the DSO will consistently follow through on key responsibilities associated with campus operations, enrollment, attendance, facility, risk management, and finance. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Campus Operations
    • Serve as the direct manager of the school-based Operations Manager 
    • Meet regularly with campus operations team to collaborate on problem-solving and planning
    •  Collaborate with the School Leader to create and manage adjustments to school-based master schedules; coordinate employee PTO and coverage responsibilities; and lead school-based implementation of arrival and dismissal procedures
    • Collaborate with campus operations team on meal service operations and cafeteria culture; implement transportation systems, including the dissemination of bus information and the implementation of system for transportation changes; to implement assessment systems (ILEARN, MAP, STEP, interims, etc.); resolve schoolbased technology issues; and reporting and compliance needs
    • Disseminate school-based communications (i.e. huddle announcements, weekly memos, etc.)
    • Develop and execute family engagement initiatives, communications, and events
    • Collaborate with club sponsors and athletics on after-school program logistics and facility needs
    • Execute Operations Manager key responsibilities when absent, including staffing front office
  • Student Enrollment & Attendance
    • Participate in regular student enrollment and attendance team meetings
    • Implement region-wide systems at school level for truancy and attendance initiatives
    • Manage and execute school-based recruitment and re-enrollment responsibilities
    • Collaborate with campus operations team to coordinate logistics for newly enrolled students
    • Support the regional POC on compliance with McKinney-Vento requirements
  • Facility
    • Develop and execute plan for school-based physical environment and lead school-based planning of classroom assignments, lockers, furniture, etc.
    • Collaborate with campus operations team on long-term space planning to maximize facility utilization and sharedspace agreements and schedule alignment 
    • Participate in regular facilities walkthroughs with campus operations team
    • Manage school-based staff PD rooms
  • Risk Management
    • Maintain safety specialist certification
    • Lead school-based efforts and compliance with safety protocols and drills o Ensure compliance with front-office safety protocols
    • Collaborate with campus operations team to deescalate family situations o Investigate and resolve Title IX incidents
  • Finance
    • Collaborate with School Leader and regional finance team on annual budget planning
    • Manage school-based annual budget, credit card, and credit card reconciliation and plan and execute school-based purchasing (i.e. supplies, furniture, etc.)

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree  
  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years of work experience 
  • Experience teaching in an urban school setting (preferred)
  • Experience coaching, managing, or leading a team of adults (preferred)
  • Strong record of helping students from educationally underserved neighborhoods achieve success (preferred)
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the KIPP Indy mission and community
  • Pass a criminal background check, as required by law

Additional Information

The starting salary for this role is $72,000.

Salary is commensurate with experience and includes a highly competitive benefits package. Opportunities for performance-based bonuses are also available.
