Holocaust Museum Boston, opening in Spring 2027, will be New England's first museum dedicated solely to Holocaust history and its enduring relevance today. Located along Boston's Freedom Trail, the museum will inspire visitors to examine the past, connect it to the present, and create a more just future through immersive exhibitions, authentic artifacts, survivor testimony, and educational programming. CompensationSalary Range: $70,000 - $90,000Competitive nonprofit benefits package. NOTE: Interested candidates must include a cover letter and resume when applying to be considered. Exhibits ManagerThe Exhibits Manager is responsible for the production and installation of all aspects of Holocaust Museum Boston's core collection, under the leadership of the CEO and working closely with the Director of Education and the COO. The position is responsible for exhibitions (exhibit budgets, audio-visual systems, incoming loans, artifact rotations, long-range exhibit planning) and management (development, stewardship, and access) for the museum's very small (less than 100 objects) core collection and temporary exhibitions. Prior to the museum's opening in 2027, the primary responsibility will be to ensure budgets and schedules are met, contractors work collaboratively and efficiently, and plans are developed and implemented for ongoing artifact rotations while maintaining the highest museum standards and HLF policies. Following the museum's opening, the Exhibits Manager will oversee the ongoing operation, maintenance, evaluation, and enhancement of the museum's core exhibitions while leading the planning, development, installation, and management of temporary exhibitions. The Exhibits Manager will ensure exhibitions remain historically accurate, visually engaging, operationally reliable, and accessible while providing an exceptional visitor experience. This person will coordinate the work of museum consultants, exhibit contractors, and other internal and external partners to facilitate the development, production, and installation of exhibits, A/V elements, and selection and preparation of artifacts, as well as plan for exhibition operations and maintenance. The Position will also identify, acquire, document, and steward artifacts and related historical materials, oversee exhibit maintenance and future upgrades, and collaborate across departments to ensure that exhibitions support educational programming, public engagement, fundraising initiatives, and museum operations. This position serves as the museum's primary steward of the exhibition experience, ensuring Holocaust Museum Boston's galleries continue to inspire, educate, and engage visitors for years to come. Responsibilities Exhibit OperationsOversee the day-to-day operation of Holocaust Museum Boston's permanent and temporary exhibitions.Ensure all exhibit components, including audiovisual systems, interactives, lighting, graphics, and artifacts, are fully operational and maintained to the highest museum standards.Manage the exhibit program, including ensuring all components, including audiovisual, are operational and meet HLF policies.Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans, including exhibit inspections, refurbishment, cleaning, repairs, and technology updates. Collection ManagementDevelop and maintain policies, procedures, and best practices for collection development (acquisition and deaccession), stewardship (care and storage), and access (exhibiting, lending, borrowing, and facilitating research use).Ensure all collections (including borrowed materials) are properly documented, secured, conserved, and cared for in accordance with professional standards and loan agreements as applicable.Coordinate incoming and outgoing loans and ensure all loan agreements and stewardship requirements are fulfilled.Lead the development of a small collection that will support the museum's mission and future exhibitions. Historical Integrity & Educational CollaborationWork with the Director of Education to deliver exhibits and supporting items that are historically accurate and aligned with the museum's mission, interpretive goals, and public programming.Support the research, documentation, interpretation, and presentation of the collection and exhibition content.Ensure exhibitions are accessible and engaging for a broad range of audiences. Cross-Department CollaborationPartner with Marketing & Communications and Visitor Services to ensure exhibitions, special events, and programs provide an exceptional visitor experience.Collaborate with the Advancement team by supporting exhibit sponsorship opportunities, donor engagement, and fundraising initiatives.Work closely with the President & CEO and Chief Operating Officer on long-range exhibit planning, capital improvements, and annual operating and capital budgets. Professional LeadershipMaintain current knowledge of museum best practices, exhibition design, collections management, conservation, Holocaust scholarship, accessibility standards, and emerging technologies.Build and maintain productive relationships with museums, cultural institutions, Holocaust organizations, collectors, lenders, and industry professionals. Other ResponsibilitiesWork evenings, weekends, and holidays as required for special events, and museum operations.Travel as necessary to museums, conferences, private lenders, and other professional meetings.Other duties as assigned. Qualifications  Master's Degree in Museum Studies, History, Public History, Exhibition Design, Cultural Studies, Art History, Historic Preservation, Library & Information Science, or a related field required. A master's degree is preferred.At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in museum exhibitions, collections management, exhibit operations, or a related fieldDemonstrated experience managing exhibition development, fabrication, installation, maintenance, and long-term exhibit operations.Experience managing contractors, consultants, vendors, project schedules, and exhibit budgets.Ability to lead, organize, delegate, and administrate teams collaboratively while working on multiple projects.Knowledge of museum standards and best practices related to exhibitions, collections care, conservation, loan agreements, accessioning, deaccessioning, and artifact stewardship.Working knowledge of museum environmental standards, security, accessibility (ADA), preventive conservation, and visitor experience best practices.Experience maintaining and updating exhibit technologies, including audio-visual systems, interactive exhibits, digital media, and content management systems.Experience developing and managing operating and capital budgets.Experience with museum collections management software and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and successfully coordinate cross-functional teams.Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and negotiation skills.Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment while exercising sound judgment and flexibility.Commitment to historical accuracy, museum ethics, and the mission and values of the Holocaust Legacy Foundation.Ability to travel as needed to meet with donors or lenders of artifacts, museum visits, conferences, and professional development.Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.Successful completion of a background check.
